Kate will only allow load totals up to $1999.99 every 10 minutes. It does not matter if it was you or the person before you. If you go over that limit, Kate will freeze. Sept 2015- Several people have reported the 10 minute limit is now longer than 10. Not sure how much longer yet. Several Kate's have locked up following the old 10 minute rule.

9 digit pin problem - Sometimes, for unknown reasons, after you swipe your card and enter your pin, MCE will ask you for a 9 digit pin. To date, no one knows why this happens, or has a fix for it. If it repeatedly asks you for a pin, this is the same as the 9 digit pin problem and there is no fix.
Unplugging and re-booting by a supervisor doesn't fix this problem.

Select 'store experience' and be sure to include the store number and address. If you include your name and phone number the stores sometimes call when it is working again. Do not abuse this as it may lead to your MCE being removed.

How to shut Kate up by sosamo
  1. Before you press anything, plug the headphones into the jack near the pinpad
  2. The touchscreen will "gray" out, and you won't be able to press anything.
  3. Press '3' on the pinpad
  4. Press 'Enter' on the pinpad
  5. Continue business as usual on the touch screen.

Note: If you ever make a mistake, to get out, just unplug the headphone.

Has anyone received a message that said that for your security a representative needs to come help you complete the transaction? is it because of too many reloads in a short amount of time? I had to wait for someone in front of me to finish his reloads

Yes. That means you did more than $1999.99 in 10 minutes. Which may have included the person in front of you. The kiosks some how notifies one of the employees, and they will come over to help you.

I bet when this happens, WM employees will simply put up an "out of order" sign and be done with it.

This is why we all need to be informed on the nuances of this machine.

I've seen them bypass this by logging in with their store ID and click "continue" or "cancel" or something like that.

Milpitas is gone since April maybe due to construction. I went to MV and was disappointed that Kate is gone there, too. Should had came here first. When was it removed because it was working fine on April 25?

I completely agree, i think theres a handful of idiots that doesn't have a clue how to use it. Going there in the morning, working, back at lunch it needs a reset, almost always have approval needed on $500. To make it worst, those lazy idiots probably walk away (seen that many times) and have the next user go find an associate to reset it.

So I go to my kate last night. It had a message on the screen:

"Authorizing devices" or something.

Anyone else see this?

Wow thanks for the update! Had no idea that's what was happening. Makes sense since I was loading both mine and my wife's BB card. However, no problem with the employee - they just signed in and all done. Was able to carry on with the transaction.

The WM near a friends house (which I don't go too that often) had the "CLOSED" display up on the kiosk monitor, and about 3-5 signs saying "NO MONEY ORDERS." I guess this one is just enough into the bad part of town to still be hit by us. =/

So I went into my normally reliable Walmart and saw that Kate was out of order, they put a bunch of carts in front of it to block it too. I did what you did and today I got a call from Walmart and they left a voicemail saying that they're in the process of getting it replaced and should be done within the next few weeks. Wonder if it'll still have all the same "functionality" ...

For folks in the Bay Area - did a little excursion to 3 WM's in the EB today - Coliseum, Bayfair & San Leandro. None had working Kates, although Bayfair was the closest - it was on, although with a cryptic "login" screen and a piece of paper taped on it saying "Out of order". Coliseum's Kate was completely shut down and blocked with carts.

I was able to load my BB using the $200 VGCs at regular cashiers just fine, although some of them are wary of practice, and one even asked if my VGCs were "MyVanillas" (because if they were, she was going to shut me down). It's still possible to buy MOs at customer service, although you may get pushback if you're using prepaid debits (but there's nothing coded in the system to stop you). All depends on which staff member you get.

Hmm maybe all the WMs are replacing their Kates ?
