VGC with AGC is always YMMV. It works better if you choose the personalized AMEX cards and leave your ID on the counter after it's been scanned. If they won't accept VGC as payment, walk away and try another CVS. There seems to be one every other mile in my neighborhood and the worst they can say is no.

what is the reason for denial if they say no?

trying to prep myself ahead of time...

"You can't buy a gift card with a gift card. Store rules."

Not true on a system level but possibly true for the individual store.

"Fine. Every other CVS in town does it." *walks out*

sooo annoying... EVERYONE mistakes the cant buy GC with a GC rules intention...

this means you cant use a CVS store brand gift card to buy other gift cards...

An AMEX gift card is the same as an AMEX credit card or CASH.. i wish they would realize

Anybody getting error messages when trying to purchase one vanilla cards? I am here in Northern California and they told me it’s a system issue not the credit card which is true. I don’t know why but it happened to me last night and again today at two different CVS’s and I am out of my 24 hour Window since my last purchase.

I had the same thing happen to me today. I haven't stepped foot in a CVS since VR's died, so I wanted to go slow with unfamiliar cashiers. Bought 2x500 at the first store, worked just fine. Drove down the street for 2 more and got the "system issue" message. I'll try again tomorrow and hope for better results.

I just bought $1000 worth of OV in each of 2 CVS stores 10 minutes apart, no problem.

I bought a dozen of OVs and paypal cash cards in 4 separate CVSs within the past week without any issue.

One of the cards was denied when purchasing MO and realized later it wasn't activated as expected. I went back and double checked the receipts and learned that the last 4 digits printed on the receipt doesn't match the last 4 on the packaging. Same 4 digits but were out of order.

My first impression was that I bought a tampered one. I went back to the CVS and a manager was involved. He didn't look thrilled. After a couple of minutes tapping on the screen, he noted he had never seen the issue before but concluded that somehow the barcode printed on the package is faulty. He refunded and reactivated a new one for me. My ID didn't work because I'd reached the limit, and he proceeded with swiping his own ID!

Not sure how often this has happened before; it's my first after buying quite a lot of these. I will be paying more attention to the 4 digits going forward.

Got told by the store manager I was breaking the law yesterday at CVS by using AGC for payment. LOL. Where do these people come from???

If you consider that store a lost cause, I would have told them to call the police, followed by, "but you gotta get my license plate first!" Then run to your car and drive away.

Nah, I wouldn't actually do that, but it would be funny.

I went to CVS today to purchase two VGCs and there seems to be a system issue. Some error came up after scanning my ID that the system was offline. It wasn't clear if it was the DL validation system or the gift card activation system. I went to a second CVS and had the same problem.

I bought these at the first CVS the past 3 days so ...

Anyone else having problems today?

I haven't tried today; but, I've received that message before. The cashier thought I had hit my daily limit. I told him that when that error appears, it specifically mentions 24 hours. So, he tried again and it worked the second time.

Yes, it's definitely been more than 24 hours since my last purchase. I was at two stores and they both tried twice (at the first store, the same cashier who helped me yesterday helped me today so she knew what she was doing).

I'll try a different CVS tonight.

If someone has tried today, it would be good to hear from others. Thanks.
