I haven't seen this asked before so I'll ask here--

Some of the OV at my local CVS have a small asterisk on the back, some don't. I have no idea what it is, but I've avoided them. Anybody have a clue?

Picture?

There are a lot of things that could be interpreted as an asterisk. It could be part of the design or could be evidence of tampering.

If you're at all friendly with the cashiers, ask if anyone else had any issues with them or if they've seen people hanging around the gift card rack for some time.

DaveInLA - I know to what you're referring and do not hesitate purchasing them.

Phantom707 - Sometimes (and not only on the ones at CVS), there is an asterisk in the same font and color print on the left side on the back just below "A $4.95 Activation Fee Will Apply." Recently, I have only seen it on random OVs with a 07/23 expiration...although, I'm pretty sure I've seen them on different packages with different expirations.

I have not found anything meaningful from the packages with this - i.e., the only difference in my experience is the asterisk, nothing in the loading/use of the card.

Another one bit the dust. I lost a CVS nearby that hired a new middle-aged/semi elderly female cashier. That demographic always gives me the most trouble. Tried to buy two OVs and was promptly met with "These are cash only." I nicely said I'd purchased these a few times before using my credit card and she muttered "cash only" again. Dropped by two more times on different days and she was there.....sigh.

I agree regarding the age demographic, but not the gender. I think 50 year old makes are just as bad. Fortunately, my favorite cashier is a 55-60 year old female that knows my name and remembers the last 3 numbers of my OBC card. I think she's happy to see me.

I also kindly ask if this is a new rule put forth in that particular store. Then mention that they can be purchased with credit everywhere else. If it's a store that's most convenient for you and you are not using an AGC, it doesn't hurt to ask to her to verify with a manager. Of course in a calm manner. Sometimes you will be surprised.

I had a similar situation at 7-11 when buying Paypal cards. The cashier was adamant that they were cash only. However since I knew that I had purchased with the manager several times, I mentioned to him that the could ask the manager. He called him at home and you could tell by the look on his face that he was shocked to be wrong. No negativity was given on either side.

The manager at my favorite cvs has implemented her own role in buying VGCs. This is the cvs closest to my house. I've been going there for months almost daily and they have been the most friendly. It seems the rule has nothing to do with purchasing with AGCs. I am limited to buying only one VGC. I had to ask to be able to do that even.

Yes it seems like all the cashiers are following the new rule. I went today and my favorite cashier turned me down. I know she had zero problems with me doing it before the manager madd up the rule. There are only about 5 cashiers I see up there regularly.

Sounds like daily visits for months got somebody scared, and you targeted...

Yea mayb but I talked to all the cashiers and they liked me. I mean they knew no funny business was going on. Stolen cc or whatever stores are usually worried about. I don't understand what their risk was with me. Maybe someone else burned them in some way.

Just wondering whether anyone bought the new paypal card in cvs store recently? I am trying to get one last Sunday and the cashier scanned the card and then told me it is "to be pulled from shelf" (message on the screen) so he can't sell.. it is just my store or nationwide?

I bought one, blue and white, a couple hours ago. The terminal had a little trouble reading my license, but other than that, there were no problems.

Do these count towards the $2k limit per day?
