Did CVS go cash only for OV prepaids? I was trying to buy 4 $500 cards and selected credit, then swiped, handed card to cashier, he entered the last 4 digits and then the transaction was denied saying "other form of payment required". Was this a decline by AMEX? I saw no pending activity/fraud alerts when I logged into AMEX and I had sufficient available credit. I tried twice with the same result.

I don't think so. Yesterday, I was behind a man who bought one OV, one PPMC and he paid with his amex CC. I'm not sure where the block to your payment is coming from but as far as CVS policy goes, it has not disallowed CC payments for those.

Every time this happens to me its because the cashier mistyped my last 4 digits. That's when I explain the issue, swipe again, and then verbally give them my last 4. 100% of the time it goes through on this second attempt

So lemme see if I understand this: If you have a driver's license, dual citizenship and two US passports you can legally become a drugstore cowboy buying $8k a day? Where do I send the flowers as I think poor ol' Cary Cheney just had a fatal heart attack!

Sure, that should work fine. There are data point of people using their passport as a second ID to get a second quota.

Or $20k under the old limits!:eek::eek:

One thing I have wondered though is if I were moving soon, could I go to the DMV and get a new DL before I move because I "lost" mine, and then once I move go get a new DL with my new address? CVS' rudimentary systems should see them as two different people since they have different addresses and they would both be "valid" for a very long time since my state issues DLs for 8 years. Obviously this is unethical, possibly illegal and some may object to doing it but in theory it should work.

This is very likely if you use an AMEX card. I loaded REDbird a few days ago and the cashier entered the 4 digit CVV instead of the last 4 digits of the card.

I think the way AMEX groups the last 5 digits of the card number throws them off if they are not used to loading prepaid cards.

Well according to post #10801, CVS slides your DL and only records the DL #. So you would need 2 DL #s for this to work since it doesn't matter about the address, name, etc. So I don't think when you request an address change on your DL that the DMV issues you a new DL number on your new DL. Maybe it could work if you are moving to another state.

Just curious if anyone has gone to a CVS lately and see if they can do a swipe reload and pay with a debit card.

I haven't bothered to set foot in a CVS since they killed the old reloads by going cash only.

just information:
I saw CVS today that all variable American express GC ($25-500) are fees at 1 cent.

this offer must be regional. I checked to see and the AM told me the only way to find out if the fee is .01 is to put the lowest amount $25 and it rang with 5.95 fees :( She just voided it and I thanked her for verifying it for me. It's not also in our weekly CVS ad so it must be one of those regional random loss leader offers.

Were you seeing a shelf tag that showed a price of $.01? I've seen this at several stores recently (CVS was one; I think Sam's Club was another). I asked about it - was told that they couldn't put "$0.00" on the tag, so they put $.01 instead - but the actual price is whatever you load on the card, plus the activation fee.

sad to say, there was no shelf tag of .01 that's why it was trial and error for me at 2 CVS. The staff are super friendly to even do a test purchase putting the least amount that can be loaded and it rang up with the regular fees. They voided transaction. They asked me if offer was in the ad, I told them I just read it online and just wanted to see if it was one of those unadvertised deals.

I didn't get on this deal; I still appreciate the HUs from others so I can try. I know if I don't try, I won't find out if it works for me. Trying it myself is the only way to find out what works/does not work for me.

My stores didn't carry the free reader after ECB last week, I have accepted the fact I can't get into every gig advertised. ;)
