Went to one of the few local CVSs today that still had PPMCs. Got the cash-only speech. Manager justified it by citing fraud issues (which is weird, because they can just ask for ID, and have done so before).

Depending on the solar calendar, direction of the winds, or day of the week, different policies are applied. It might change again. Try a different store or go back later.

There's only 1 CVS in my area that consistently allows cc to purchase PPMC cards. I just bought one today and there were only 2 left. Over the last 3 weeks, they haven't restocked. Not sure what will happen when they run out.

In all seriousness, I have 5 stores within a 3 mile radius and have noticed the same trend at all of them. 2 stores are cleaned out, the other 3 are under 20 per store.

My take, is once they are gone, they are gone. PPMC will be replaced with something very similar to Swipe Reload (as discussed on several blogs). It remains to be seen if CVS will accept CCs on the new process. I've heard convincing arguments both for and against.

On the positive side, there only seems to be 1-2 others in my area buying these, so I think I am going to run out of PP accounts to load before the stores run out of PPMC this month. My take is it will be dead by the time next month rolls around.

CVS in DC said no more One Vanillas for sale, credit cards or otherwise.

Well.....I had an encounter with what I thought at the time was ill informed clerk who said cash only for the OV, after arguing with him a little he said that they are being discontinued anyways...but if thats true and applies to all VGC then that will suck big time...this was in Ohio..

Obviously this guy is confusing OVs with VRs, which are being discontinued soon. If OVs were being discontinued we would have heard it on here/on a blog from a higher level source before it made its way down to the bozo working the cashier counter.

Both my local CVS, used to sell $500 OV with no hassle and no ID check.

When you went up to $1,000 they wanted to swipe the driver's license.

Now in 2015 both are swiping my DL at $500. So I assume the registers are coded now to request it at a lower level than before.

Yup, I saw it on the wiki.

The rack was empty of OVs so I went to the counter, as I had done in the past, and asked if they had any more that had not been put up. The cashier stated that the sale of OVs and Green Dot Money Cards were discontinued because of money laundering issues.

Last weekend was the very first time that the CVS needed my DL after the first $500 OV, instead of after the second.

I have been in twice this week...scanned OneVanilla for $500, prompted them to swipe my DL, then it came back and said the system was having an issue and couldn't process the transaction..try again in a few minutes.

This sounds like the store itself was confusing VRs and OVs. If OVs were actually being discontinued they'd be gone from Wags, RA, etc. They still have plenty. My two local CVS have plenty as well. VRs were what they were having issues with with ML, not OVs.
