When you went up to $1,000 they wanted to swipe the driver's license.

Now in 2015 both are swiping my DL at $500. So I assume the registers are coded now to request it at a lower level than before.

Anyone else see this?

Yep, I saw it in person today when I bought a US$500 PPMC card. The cashier read from the register and spoke to me as if she were prompted to ask for my DL at the appropriate point. So yeah, I can verify that (at least for Pennsylvania CVS) ID scan even for US$500 purchases.

Difficult question to search for so I'll just ask it: does anyone know if CVS registers are hard coded, regardless of what the written policy may actually be, to prevent CVS store GCs from being used as a form of payment for OVs/VGCs?

Today I went to CVS to load 400 in cash to Serve, they wanted my DL??? Then the system would not allow after she swiped my Serve card. Clerk showed me error, just about had it with Serve.

I had issues today as well, but while trying to buy an OV. The clerk told me screen said it was unable to authorize, and to "remove from baggage area." A chit then printed out saying my limit had been reached (which is not the case.) The system rejected the transaction even before the DL scan prompted.

Purchased $1500 in PPMC this morning; standard operating procedure of ID swipe after first $500, no problems.

Ditto. ID scan after $500. No other issues.

CVS

why do folks here waste time with ridiculous posts? The wiki explains that a DL is required for every 500.00 and over OV. What's the big deal. Accept it. We are lucky they still sell to us with CC. Yes 3 CVS's I frequent in NY and 2 in CT scan DL. That's so you can't get more then 2k per 24 hours, unless you scan a SO DL. But none of my CVS stores ever look at license!

Its of some importance because just a couple weeks ago they scanned at $1k, not $500 even though the policy was otherwise. The system was recently updated.

On the previous system, you could get $2k at one CVS and then $500 at other CVS throughout the other day - or if a CVS would break up in multiple single transactions for you as many as you want.

A few datapoints confirming the change doesn't hurt.

data point

Went to pick up one OV. Had trouble swiping my DL as the strip is bad. After 4 tries allowed the CSR to manually enter my DL number, otherwise she was telling me I couldn't buy until I get another DL.

If your DL has a 3d bar code CVS can scan that. PA does.

We have a bar code also, but the license is 5 years old and rough will be time to replace in July.

I was using CVS because it is WAY more local than walmart to load serve.

since they were cash only, I was using the cash from the AFTs so I wouldn't have to go to mutiple banks to deposit the money.

I got really mad when they required DL for cash deposits.. so now I am flipping all my serves to redbirds and dealing only with target.

I am glad I don't have to go to walmart anymore.. REALLY glad I won't deal with CVS and their stupid policies anymore.

They change their policies daily

Before it used to be no DL scan / $2k loads @ $500 each per day
Now it is DL scan for everything / $1k load @ $500 each per day

soon they won't want you to do more than $500 a day period. whats the point?

When they ask me what I do with it, I say "I pay my exorbitant bay area rent with it"

I feel you about Walmart. They are much easier to tolerate if they have a kiosk, though.

so looks like PP Mycash cards are not being restocked in South Bay.... all stores I frequent have been completely empty for more than 10 days now. They are full of OVs which I don't want for now.
