ALL the CVSs around my area take CC. Half of RiteAids take CC( depend on the clerks). Only less than 1 quarter of WGs take CC at ATL NE area.
I always go to CVSs first unless I cannot find any PP cards (VGCs are always available), I will try RiteAid later. Same RiteAid, different clerks has different policy, sometime I still will be blocked due to hardcoded terminal which is on or off by seasonal. I never know if any RiteAid will accept CC until I pay. The good thing for RiteAid is their cashier will tolerate AGC more than CVS's clerks.

I'm surprised people can still MS with CVS ... all the drug stores around me are like that though |
I have a good relationship with my CVS cashiers. As long as they Amex GC no having my name is an issue and the system will take it, I'm sure it will be ok. I'll start slow and test.

So, on Wednesday I went in in purchase close to 2k VGC around 4.30 PM
Then, on Thursday, I tried to go in and purchased at noon, and got declined. Then, I realized about the 24 hrs thingie, so I thank the rep and cancelled the purchase. Later at night, I went to a different store and tried to do the transaction. 1st card charged, ID scanned, but cant add card#2. It seemed that limited to 1 card. I wonder if this is the store policy for 1 card or I am blocked for the 24 hrs? I did end-up purchase 1 card. oozze |
PP My Cash Card
Stopped at CVS (not normal one I visit) tried to purchase four PP My Cash cards, CSR and shift manager stated cash only, asked if they could try as I just brought some with CC the other day both said no . Said okay put cards back. On my way home stopped at my local CVS, grabbed four PP My Cash cards talk with the usual CSR as she scanned them paid with CC and said Thank You and goodbye :D. Typical CVS policy variation!

Strange that 1 card went through. Makes me think the cashier was doing something wrong, possibly intentionally as a way to impose a non-existent limit.
Of course it worked. I just nodded, "Yeah, they must have changed it recently." Riiiiight. |

Stores can't have different system limits. They can definitely verbally implement a limit, but they don't have customization ability in terms of their system. They all allow 2k per 24 hours. I went too early once (before rolling 24 hours was up by a few minutes) and I just said "oh, I did buy some gift cards last night so maybe it's limited per 24 hours not by day." It's a manager at a store that knows me well so no biggie. I told him I'd check and be back. Went back in 10 min later and bought 2k no problem. So your failed transaction should not have reset the 24 hour clock, if that's what you're asking. Strange that 1 card went through. He was willing to work with me because I guided him - I gave him my ID card to scan after the 1st card scanned, and told him to scan. But the system just dont want to charge for the 2nd card. Even after I purchased the 1st card, he asked me to go to different cashier station to try #2, #3 and #4, but I was nicely declined him because I was really coming to use AGC, and I dont want to break the purchase under 2k too much. Well I do have alot of CVS around my area, so no biggie, but It was just a strange experience. This month was kind of an off month - I also purchased a vanilla VGC but the inside was $100 fixed GC. So, the purchase was not completed. I have filled a case with InComm, but so far I think they just making the card worth $200. I have to call them back. oozze |

Oh yes they can. Different districts can in fact have different system limits.

Just confirmed that Passport and Global Entry cards are accepted and do not cross reference your Drivers License. Bought $2k at one location with GE then $2k more at a second location within an hour with my DL.
Not sure if this has been discussed but Contactless Payments, Apple Pay in my case, are not accepted for VGC purchases. Or maybe it was the dollar amount? |

Does it make anyone besides me nervous that they are storing the info on your DL (and now PP, GE, etc) in their systems somewhere? What if they get breached by hackers?

I just tried dl and passport, and passport got rejected for going over the limit.
