just got 5K at Columbia pike in Arlington va. If the person who hid 8 of them is on here, I hope you hid more somewhere else if you plan on going back.

Data points: Hartford, CT seems to be hard coded for alternative tender required for VR. PP was out of stock. Was able to purchase VGCs.

Datapoint: 10 AM - $4k of VR purchased in VA. 4PM- alternate CVS said there was a new cash-only policy for VRs.

Data point:

At 3:30 PDT today I was able to buy $999 of VRC at a CVS in N. LA (the valley). Was told there is now a 1k a day limit, but nothing about a cash only policy was mentioned.

Went to another store about 10 minutes away. The kid behind the counter was about to ring me up with a cc but his manager came out and said it was now cash only and showed him the memo we've all seen. He was pretty aggressive and mentioned it was because of recent fraud. But it was never rung into the system so I'm not sure if it would have gone through if the manager hadn't stopped it. This was before 4:00PDT(/midnight GMT).

So it seems very much like as of now it's ymmv. I'm curious what happens after midnight.

That youtube video was pretty damn funny.

So the consensus is that this "cash only" for beans is random. I still can't understand why they would hard code some area and let others slide, especially within the same city. I can't think of any logical explanation.

If you look at the list in the picture of the CVS memo posted on the blog Points Summary, all of the Vanilla Products listed as cash only effective 4/31 are reloadable debit cards like My Vanilla (in customers possession) etc. Nowhere is listed the so-called “Beans” or Vanilla Reload Network Prepaid Reload. I just went to my local CVS and bought 5K (10beans) at 6 PM on 4/31-the memo said cash only effective 4/31. At first try, it came back when I swiped my Delta Amex to pay as “alternate tender” in other words they wanted another form of payment. We swiped my Delta Amex card again immediately and it went through- I have a feeling that because I had just made an online payment to my Amex to have enough available credit to make the purchase before I ran off in a panic to my CVS to try and buy the cards, that it took two swipes until the on-line payment I had just made 20 minutes before credited to my Amex account and allowed the purchase go through. The asst manager at my CVS who has helped me before, has heard nothing of the cash only policy. Whew, at least I have another months worth of Blue Bird Vanilla beans if this horrible news is true. Manager said to come back in a couple of days and try and buy another VR with Amex.
