New York Metro. Successful this evening. 1x$500.
North NJ, Bergen county. CVS's are cash only now. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuudge!!!!
NYC - 1 accepted 2x500 swipes, denied in store across town. Guess its really a YMMV for the next couple days...
Just bought $2500 with CC, no issues here.
Can't wait for 3 more hours to feed my bird with new icecreams!!!
LA County - 3 straight CVS stores that were packed to the gills with VR all of a sudden were empty. I asked cashiers if they had any behind the counter and they said they were told by a manager to take them off the shelves. The final store was the store manager who I've gotten to know who said his district manager said they were cash only and to take them off the shelf for the time-being
Went to a 4th CVS store a little away on the way to the gym - they were willing to do up to $5,000, but they said they were told to go cash-only starting April 3. |
Stopped at three different stores in Westchester, NY on the way home from work today. First one was a bust, but I don't think it had anything to do with the memo - there were old pieces of paper that said "cash only" taped above the prepaid cards. Next two I went to were business as usual - got 2,500 at each on on CC no problem.

What time do transactions show up in the Posted Activity for Wells Fargo and Barclay?
I know that it takes about 2 days ... for Chase, I usually see these appear in the Posted Activity around 9:30PM ET and AmEx, this is usually around 9:30AM. WF seems to be super slow (3 or even 4 days?) |
Maybe this CVS issue will help us all to be careful to not abuse this means of ms and be less greedy when we do find stores where we can still load Serve with cc or debit and buy VRs with cc. When you hide VRs, take them with you to purchase at other stores and do other annoying things it causes stores grief. When I've gone into CVS to load my Serve using a cc or 5 VGCs I always let other customers go first who are buying items. If I had to make another ms transaction I'd always allow someone to go in front of me while I would get back in line.
When you make things as easy as possible for the store managers and other staff then they appreciate it and are happy to take care of your transactions. All the CVS staff I've encountered have been professional and they recognize why we do this. They are supportive and love to see customers getting their needed miles and points. Obviously, this is my experience and there will always be a grump in any company. If the CVS stores near you continue to allow Serve loading with cc or debit and buying of VRs with cc then please abide by the rules and let's be adults. Hiding cards is childish. BTW, I've never had a problem finding VRs, no one hides them in my area and none of the stores have experienced problems or been victims of fraud since they know not to activate anything over the phone. I'm amazed that occurred somewhere. I can see why certain problem areas had to go to cash only due to crooks, not ms'ers. True ms'ers abide by the rules and we tend to also buy things when we're in their stores. CVS and Serve have brought people into the store and that generates other sales. In fact, CVS staff in my area have told me it would be a shame if Serve customers would no longer be able to use cc or debit to load their Serve accounts directly at CVS. They know it brought more traffic to the store and we'd usually find other things we needed and some of us even switched over to CVS pharmacies since it became convenient for time. If CVS does implement cash only in all stores then they will lose pharmacy customers since ms'ers don't have time to frequent stores other than those we tend to get cb or points at. Walgreens never sees me because they are mostly cash only for VRs and other preloads. My family's pharmacy needs get fulfilled by the stores I'm able to also buy VRs and other cards using cc. Hopefully, not all CVS's go to cash only. So far, many in the Midwest are still doing business as usual. I'll probably switch pharmacies to a grocery store near me if I'll no longer need CVS. I hope they still need me and my patronage. |

I'd bet the people being idiots (for lack of a better word) are probably not reading this message board and instead getting their information from the blogs.
