I stopped by 3 cvs's in the east bay area, 2/3 told me unprompted that on 4/3 all money packs and surprisingly all gift card were going cash only. Im not sure if i totally believe the gift card part.

Let's hope not on the GCs, but if the above memo is accurate "#904511 My Vanilla VL [Variable Load?] $20-500" sounds an awful lot like a VGC that lots of us buy. Definitely unfortunate, as this would have been my backup too.

Just did $1k VR at another ESTL location. No mention. No questions. Did my transactions separately and didn't bat an eye.

You aren't violating CVS policy yes, but at least in theory the purchase probably should gain no points according to your credit card agreement. You are (I assume) doing this to gain points, something your credit card issuer does not officially endorse. They may turn a blind eye to it, but yes, the motive is self-enrichment. If enough people do it, the credit card companies have an excuse to reduce rewards even for those that play by their rules (i.e. no MS at all).

Again, I am a happy MSer, just pointing out that greed accusations against people who do more/differently from you are misplaced, to John Average Smith, we are being greedy too, and putting his reward game at risk.

I believe that is the MVD, not the VGC.

Think the MVD is #955077, or 2nd from bottom. Could be wrong of course, as I am certainly no expert on CVS inventory.

I just went to my local cvs and bought 2 more VR. The manager mentioned he has sold a lot of them today, but didn't know why so much volume today. He made no mention of "cash only" coming.

#904511 MyVanilla VL is for the purchase of the MVD card with an initial load from $20 to $500.

#955077 MY VANILLA RELOAD is for adding money to the MVD card with a swipe.

VGC does not seem to be on the list

It's super odd that some stores are hard coded and others are not. Leads me to believe it truly is a sporadic thing. Might have to do with what some people mentioned being "high risk" stores. Because one store works, but then another 10 minutes away doesn't work. The person who seemed to know what they were talking about due to a friend working at CVS made it seem like they could fairly easily hard code all of the registers at once if they wanted to. But for some reason that didn't happen. Not sure why it would only roll out to certain stores and gradually to more and more if they have the pretty simple ability to do it all at once.

I've been wanting to comment on this "rollout" for lack of a better word.

Anybody bank at NFCU? I think it's easy to assume there are a few million customers who bank with them.

Way back in Oct., they decided to make adjustments to log ins on accounts. I was selected for the first phase. It was terrible.

My DH's separate account for the new log in finally was adjusted this past week.

The point: I don't think CVS could do this with their IT department(s) in one day. I think they realized it would take some time to cover all stores.

CVS is NE based. Looks like that region was at least ONE of the districts first. If not geographic, perhaps picked for another reason, ie, reported fraudulent activities verified in areas, as I see Chicago area had no go reports, too. IT changes take time and rely on phases to be completed. But, bottom line, their time is over.

I guess we will know for sure tomorrow; same time, same channel. I won't lose any sleep but I do hold out hope for the April 4th delay.

Love it!

In the meantime, as you were. :)

Pretty much over near the Boston area. I went to my usual one (I thought they would be OOS from the run over the weekend), but there was a handful. Should've made an extra trip on Sunday, but it was cold and raining and another drive out was too much time and effort.

Anyway, I took it to the register and was immediately greeted with "these are cash-only". Cashier didn't bother swiping. Also tried a OV (YMMV), and the cashier also flat out said that too is cash only. I just accepted his response and moved on. Bummer, and I never bought a lot or abused it and it's over. I did want to get a few more. Oh well. It is what it is.

Good luck to those who can still get them for however much longer it lasts.

Just purchased the last two at a Brentwood, TN location. Spoke with a manager, who showed me the exact memo, as posted above. He said most of his stock had been cleared out that evening, and several people came in buying $5k worth. He said that he would probably continue selling until the computer no longer let him, but that policy changes like that take immediate effect in the system once live.

Well done. Dramatic ending. My fav line was hitler being pissed about having to drive to wally world.

Just visited a CVS in the suburbs of DC (Gaithersburg) for the second time today for another 5K (after GMT reset). Without prompting, the cashier told me "this is coming to an end!" as if he was ending my evil reign (no joke). I tried not to laugh, played dumb and asked him what he was referring to, and he showed me the memo saying the reload cards (all the ones from the original memo) would be cash only as of 4/4. Not sure if it meant that 4/4 would be the last day or 4/3.

I tried to take a picture but he wouldnt allow it without his managers permission. When his manager came around I asked him, and he wouldnt even let me see the memo (but the clerk already had). In any case, unfortunately, this is no april fools joke.

The game changes, but the game goes on.

When Walgreens went to cash only for VR's, it took MONTHS for it to become fully rolled out. Some of us were buying them for a long time after other parts of the country were locked out. Even stores in the same city and same district within a metro are were not all synced up. I know - I literally stopped at every Walgreens in the county and knew which ones were and weren't viable. The list would slowly go down, 1 store at a time, as they systems were updated and CC sales blocked.

Grab them while they are still available.;) It doesn't matter what the memo says, doesn't say, the game is over if POS is hardcoded. :( Updating all POS software may take days, even weeks, if some POS are offline.
