The daily limit resets at 8pm every night." I went back and bought $2k more, but I didn't want to put any more spend than that on my Amex card. She then told me about this "crazy guy" who would come in right before 8pm and max out the limit on these "crazy cards", wait a few minutes until 8pm and then max it out again.

I guess we're all a bit "crazy"... :D

Exactly. There isn't anything about this situation that isn't negative. Hence my statement. ;)

With all the VR hackers out there I wouldn't trust it enough to float months worth.

The use of a double negative was confusing to the person. :p

Any word on Philly suburbs? I went in to my local CVS Sunday evening and they must've had at least 200 VR on the shelves. I'd imagine they'll remain on the rack considerably longer than they use to.

I plan on shingling my roof with used VRs and VGCs. Perhaps you could do the same with your unused ones?

I was surprised that my two local CVSs had not yet received the memo. I printed out a copy and gave it to the manager of each store. They thanked me after letting me purchase the last cards that they said would be allowed with a credit card. I feel fortunate.

Absolutely! I've had success typing random pin numbers at vr.com since all this started. 2 hits so far! Sure its $1000 but I spent a lot of time trying.

well that's after I bought the ones I brought in this week ;)

and that's not including the ones I hide in the baby stroller.

Marathon Man - I realize you mean humor in your postings - but are they really funny?

As someone who does MS regularly and has become 'well acquainted' with the CVS DM in the area, he talked about the phenomenon of people hiding the cards and people actually taking the cards from the store and LATER bringing them back for purchase. He said Loss Prevention considers that practice THEFT and company wide, several people have been caught doing what you say above. Just don't find any humor in it or giving people the idea.

I purchased some yesterday on the Main Line.

A couple more data points

Western suburbs of Philadelphia, both CVS's that I have previously purchased VRs and re-loaded Serve using credit cards and AGCs.

(1) CVS closest to me said nothing when I asked to load my Serve card (I didn't mention using credit), but when swiped, the terminal took longer than normal to respond and then returned message that "Pre-paid card could not be authorized." I called Amex, who told me there was no problem with my account. The cashier tried again, with same result. The helpful manager then called CVS corporate but got strange (and wrong) advice that Serve cards have only a limited amount of swipes before they need to re-issued, and that must be my problem. I saw some VRs on the rack so figured I would buy a couple using an AGC, but once these were swiped the terminal returned the cash-only message. The manager apologized and said this was a new directive (he also said he would need to remove the stickers from the registers that plainly said credit could be used for pre-paid cards but not debit cards).

(2) Five miles away and 15 minutes later, decided to stop in to a different CVS on a lark. No problem loading my Serve card using AGC-- in fact, I did two $500 loads back to back.

Very random, this whole thing (or so it would seem).

For those that have received refunds in the past, how long does it take for checks to arrive? The site says up to 10 days.
