The shift lead said she kept missing the question on their new training about using a CC for VR because she knew how many she had sold me! OOPS! Anyway, they obviously have had the employees do training on this issue so I think it is truly dead nationwide!

I don't know anyone who has doubted that for at least a week!

I did and only found post 8779 which states a $1 difference in purchase fee. In my experience, I have been able to find vanillas GC to cost the same as OV....

And the post just before that gives one answer.

That's really cool! I wonder if the mods could apply the same feature to a couple other threads...

Well yes I did see that too, just didn't think that was enough of a benefit to really get OV vs Vanilla GC since most people just don't show the GC or hide it until they swipe. YMMV of course.

So then, you want to require people to lie when they post a question? :p

So yes, it's only two small benefits. But when the choice is which of 2 GCs sitting right next to each other on the rack, really two small benefits is all it takes to make up my mind.

Next life changing question please. :p

DIRE STRAITS

Money For Nothing Lyrics

I want my... I want my TYP.....

Now look at them yo-yos thats the way you do it
You play the gc game on the TYP
That aint workin thats the way you do it
Money orders for nothin and mortgage checks for free
Now that aint workin thats the way you do it
Lemme tell ya them Citi guys are dumb
Maybe get a blister on your little finger from swiping
Maybe get a blister on your thumb

At Walmart, we CSRs gotta return microwave ovens
Custom kitchen deliveries
We gotta move these refrigerators
We gotta move these colour tvs

See the little MSer with the credit cards and miles
Yeah buddy he's got some flair
That little MSer rides on many a jet airplane
That little MSer hes a points millionaire

I shoulda learned to play the GC game
I shoulda learned not to be so dumb
Look at that mama, she stickin it in the store camera
Man we could have some fun
And whats that? He's staying in Hawaiian hotels?
Just by bangin on the pin pad like a chimpanzee
That aint workin thats the way you do it
Get your money for nothin get your mortgage checks for free

I wasn't aware about the CVS policy change so I tried a typical run today and got turned away at three different locations that I have all used in the past.

Just wanted to add my two cents in there. A manager I've spoken with on numerous occasions before said he couldn't do an override for it.

Will have to do some research on the next method when I get home I guess.

We have always paid cash at strip clubs, as many are bad about bill padding. We have been to many all over the US, but seldom go anymore...now just visit Thailand a few times a year and get 'much more' for price of a lapdance or two:D

If the OV has those small advantages, the question you should have asked is why people buy VGCs instead of OVs.

There's a much better answer in my case, though -- the 7-Elevens here don't have $500 VGCs but they do have OVs. In practice, I buy whichever I feel like buying when there's a choice. Today at CVS, they were out of OVs so I bought VGCs. No big deal either way.

I think the main 2 benefits of OV are:

1. $1 cheaper
2. doesn't have the word Gift, etc all over the place. Looks closer to a real debit card.

I went to 3 CVS, and only 1 of them had OV. I didn't drive around looking for OV, just whichever that is closer to me.

So I went back to my only CVS that sold me VR back then with CC ( I was MIA since the memo). The manager said,"you know things are different now right?). I said,"(yah, I am just buying gift cards). Bought 1k worth of Vanilla Visa ($5.95) with my AMEX blue, say hi to one of my fav. cashier and left.

Went back to my local CVS and 4 racks all sold out... .......s!

I just loaded my first $500 VGC at WM today! Actually loaded my first two and it was the first time the Moneycenter cashier had ever seen a BB (new WM but sadly no Kate). She called the manager over, they did one swipe with each card and I was out of there within minutes. Of course it wasn’t as easy as scratching off lotto tickets (i.e. VR) but it was less painful than I thought it was going to be. And no PIN was necessary…
