not exactly true...you can float the 3k from card to card for as long as you want...just make sure the 3 cards have different closing dates:cool: You are effectively using a credit card company's money to earn points/miles/cashback. This is one of the best way to use MS.

Floating it for MS purposes is one thing, but doing it because you cannot afford to pay you tax bill is an entirely different thing. Whatever floats your boat though, but I would not be worried about earning miles and taking holidays if I was that low on funds that I needed to float a 3k tax bill indefinitely.

For some it is not a discount but rather a negative interest cash advance - you are paid to take their money and use it.

Aha. So it's possible that "someone didn't get the memo!" :D

I'm guessing he thinks a large portion of former VR purchasers will be moving over to OV.
Frankly, I don't see it. OV is quite a bit more involved and time-consuming for MS purposes in most situations. |

A CVS manager in Central Minnesota insisted this morning that OV cards could no longer be purchased with CC and pointed to the memo. I asked her to try and she then stated it was in an e-mail and today would be the last time she would let me do it. Of course it worked and I was able to buy OV cards with a CC.
Frankly, I think she was clueless but it did worry me that there could more changes on the way now that I have WM BP, BB and Money Order all in play when I was just doing VR previously. Hopefully, not but I am posting here to see if there are other reports about an e-mail or if this is just a clueless CVS manager. |
I'm glad the CVS managers where I am aren't like some mentioned.
I came in and talked to the one I frequent most (right by my house) to confirm that OV would be fine (I had been shut down a few days prior by one of his register employees which I think was a knee jerk reaction directly after the memo). He stated they were fine once he saw that it wasn't a reloadable product and then asked me "What the new method for airline miles was". He has been considering doing it himself after he got curious at one point with all the people buying a couple of months ago and figured out the VR -> BB route. |
Had to go to CVS and was very depressed when I saw my friends on the rack calling my name, a full three rack worth.... Sigh...
|
Saw the memo for CVS. Might have already been posted here? Apologies if the case. The change was due to the fees associated to these purchases and not a fear of fraud. The cutoff included the following cards:
Reloadable debit cards AMEX Serve MV VL NetSpend PP VR Amex Swipe JH Momentum MIO MVR First Data Money |
I went to one store for OV and some lady went like "oh that's cash only" I was like this is gift card.
"we just got a Memo that those loading ones are cash only" I was like, this different, can we just try?? she's all "cash only.... blah bla" It was at night so I just left... After work I'm gonna go to another one...and buy the OVs |
What's the advantage of buying the OneVanilla cards over the plain Vanilla Gift Cards? Anything that you can do with One Vanilla that you can't with the VGCs?
