as far as i know they work exactly the same. pin is set at first debit transaction, and loads the same way. i think you can do something with OVs and MVDs, but i'm not sure what. i only use them to load to bb. never tried mo

How do you set the pin before you load to BB?

If you are buying MOs (or loading to BB) sometimes cashiers have rules "No gift cards" OneVanilla just say "Debit" rather than "A Gift for You" or whatever, and at least at first glance look like "real" bank debit cards.

I believe, it's $1.

Any recent luck adding money to Serve by swiping a GC (w. pin)? Didn't work at CVS yesterday. 7-11s near me have never allowed CCs. At this point it seems Bluebird is better than Serve, due to the WM option.

You can't load a GC to serve. If loading GCs to a prepaid is what you want then yes BB is better.

OVs suck. They have raised numbers which make them stack poorly. Carrying any more than 50 on me is a royal PITA.

Card Nazi

I went to a CVS this morning to purchase more OVs. The clerk told me ALL cards with a VISA/Mastercard logo have gone cash and refused to run it. I asked him if he could try to run the OV. He said he did (scanned card and punched some keys) and states "See, it is telling me cash only". Anybody else have this happen?

You mean, having a CVS clerk who either can't read, won't read, or is lying to you? Sure. Most of us.

Welcome to FT.

This AM the clerk and I had to go line-by-line over the infamous memo before she would reluctantly try an OV card. Naturally it worked fine.

Are you out of your mind? Carrying $25k worth of cash equivalents is a bad idea anyway.

You basically quoted the exact answer. You set the pin at first debit transaction, i.e. when you first swipe the card, enter any pin number and that will be your pin.

I went to a CVS 2 nights ago. First time trying OV. I asked him (looks like a manager) if I can purchase with CC. He said,"not sure, I know we receive something about reloads, but I'll give it a try". Swipe, etc. Done. Left with a OV. So it all depend on your cashier, and his willingness to try. I am sure the OV is not hardcoded for cash.

And yes, the OV looks more like a real debit card than a gift card.

The next day, went to walmart. Load it to my BB with a cashier.

One CVS refused to sell OV cards citing memo and my DW was able to buy 5k next day. It depends on the cashier and their mood.

Another CVS sold me OV but was told that very soon they will become cash only(by a manager):p
