+1. And the packaging is bad too. VRs were far better for the environment.

The discussion about overpayment on Wells Fargo cards has been moved to the Credit Card Programs forum. I will leave it to the moderators there to decide if it should be merged into an existing thread.

For giggles I went into my CVS and grabbed a VR with a couple of other things. The salesperson who knows me took the VR, scanned it, said they were cash only now so I turned around and grabbed a regular VGC and it went through with no problem.

OV does not suck - take it back!

OV looks the most like a legitimate card as compared to any other VGC.

I stand by my comment. Nobody sees my cards except my scanner.

Which brings me to reason #3 not to buy OVs. Only ~12 fit in the feed tray due to their stupid raised numbers, instead of ~20 other cards.

I flip them in such a way that the raised numbers are above the others card. Makes them fitting into a wallet etc easier.

Interestingly, some clerks still aren't aware that VR has gone cash only, which makes me wonder, is it 100% positively cash only throughout the country now? Any recent data point to the contrary?

Registers are hard-coded nationally for cash only. I suppose it's possible that a register wasn't recoded properly - if you find one, consider yourself very fortunate!

The clerk at my CVS was unaware that VR are now cash only. But then again, they have been out of VR cards for the past couple weeks, so she hasn't had the experience of trying to ring one up.

Even if the clerk tried to ring up a VR, a hard-coded register would not allow the transaction. The clerk at my local CVS was willing to try, but got blocked :(

When they first scanned my OV card, a prompt was displayed which asked to confirm if customer is in front and not on phone. I tried buying VR/Paypal but was blocked by register.

I actually saw one last week. It was at an outdoor buffet. I didn't have enough cash and they busted out the old fashion carbon copy tool to process my card. Thank goodness I had a card with raised numbers!

I wish all cards including CCs would just stop using raised numbers. That's left over from the old days of carbon copy imprint receipts, and it's been over a decade since I've seen one of those.

While it is true that raised numbers are old technology, they are the fall back when the computer systems are down. You can still submit a paper charge and some merchants do make an imprint of your card for backup reasons.
