I personally prefer an upper deck window for the storage space next to the seat. I also feel like the Upper Deck is more private and I encounter fewer disturbances since there are fewer passengers to mill about. On the other hand, the center J seats on the main deck have the advantage of more personal space between neighbors and more seats with direct aisle access.

+1 for Upper Deck - just don't get overexcited - it is nowhere close to the 'private jet' experience some folks claim it is...

As a couple: Upper deck.
Travelling alone: Lower deck, middle seat. Especially on a night flight!

I figure there is not a bad seat in the house, but which 747-8 F seat is best for a solo traveler? Row 2 seems perhaps the best if the seats in 1 are much closer because of the fuselage curvature? Then again, is the activity at the adjacent bar a nuisance?

IMHO, 1A or 1K - still generous space and no fellow travellers/cabin/aircraft/rear galley noise at all. Go for them.

As said earlier - if privacy is your biggest concern I see a slight edge for 2A/2K, but i would always go for 1A/1K

I've sat in both 1A and 2A (on the same flight!) and my conclusion is 1A is great if you are travelling with someone or if 1K is free! Otherwise I'd choose 2A. I think the advantage of the nose curve is exaggerated. On my recent flight there were only two F pax in 1A and 1K, but the pax in 1K decided to move to 2K.

I think there is a problem with AC in seats 1A and 1K. The other day when I flew 748i it was frozen cold in these two seats that I shifted to 2A immediately after take off.

Agreed- I had that seat again this week from ORD that is definitely the better option in business class (far more foot room).
