This thread's a little dated, but when I lived in Boston, Pho Pasteur was my favorite...the extra large chicken-noodle pho always hit the spot. The one on Newbury was great for people-watching.

I also like What the Pho? in Bellevue, WA--good pho, clean place, and of course, the cheeky name.

Come visit NoVa, there is a Pho restaurant in every (other) corner. I have 6 Pho restaurants to choose for my lunch break.

I had a vietnamese girlfriend one time (true story) and we'd occasionally go to SF to get pho (since marin county's pho was horrible) and I once joked how we should open a pho restaurant.

call it Pho Reals.

My pho recommendations:

Asia House, East Lansing, Michigan
- make sure you ask for extra sliced onions and mint, $4.65 Lunch Special & $1.95 (2) Fresh Roll, extra noodles for only .75 cents...
Pho 3000, Los Angeles, California
- I only went during dinner at the price was around $6

Just north of Seattle .. I want to say Bellevue .. there's a Panda Express right off the I-5 exit.

Anyway .. I was on my way back from Vancouver and craving for some Pho .. got off the exit and found at least five different Pho restaurants near each other. I couldn't make up my mind on which one to go to that I ended up with chinese instead of Pho

Too funny! Sounds like something they'd have in Hawaii, too. We used to say "fo' real!" all the time back in the day!

I actually had pho for lunch today, at Pho Ca Dao on Mira Mesa. It's so close to the office, though there are of course a jillion other pho places nearby as well.

I wrote about it on the other page it's near the Union Bank just past Camino Ruiz... I know it well

I like it.. I've been there a dozen times and been satisfied every time. I'm not sure how much better it is than any other place in the city but I've liked it every time. Always good for a quick cheap meal.

Not every state is so lucky. http://www.phofever.com lists 1 pho restaurant in Alabama, 37 in Virginia and 247 in California (of course there are far more). So consider yourself lucky.

There's a Pho Hoa on Main and 19th in Vancouver Canada that serves a mean Hot and Sour Pho with Pigs' Trotters. (You can ask it to be taken out if you want).. for US$4. And that's the large portion!

Since the one AL Pho restaurant is hundreds of miles from me, I'm glad I decided to try it in CA and not wait for a drive to Mobile. I stumbled into a place in Milbrae last night while getting gas before I turned in the rental car at SFO. I was the only non-asian in the place and took that as both a recommendation and invitiation to the exotic. I ordered Bun ?? with cold noodles and 2 kinds of pork. Very good. Given my aversion to organ meats and other garbage cuts, I can't believe I selected an anonymous dish from a menu featuring tripe, tendon and "mixed meat" - imperial roll turned out to be very greasy and full of mystery meat. I stuck to the tea, but was fascinated by the other drink options, like "salty lemonade" or "soda with evaporated milk". Next time, maybe.

Vietnamese cuisine has dozens of exotic drink choices, some quite good. Starting with "avocado milkshake". Even their coffee is a bit exotic (made with condensed milk and tapioca). Everything I've tried has been good.

In case you haven't figured out the difference between Vietnamese and Chinese cuisine, one difference is in the vegetables. Vegetables are always raw in Vietnamese, and always cooked in Chinese. Fascinating.
