"What the pho?" around the Seattle area is very good. It's about a 5-min drive from SEA airport. I really like their modern setting.

Vietnamese sandwiches or "Banh Mi" pictured here is a French-inspired baguette made up of thinly sliced, pickled carrots, daikon, onions, cilantro, choice of barbecued pork, pat, chicken and other meats. ... Nonethelesss find the right place and the banh mi can be an incredible deal for lunch.
Three banh mi
Three desserts
Two boba teas
Total = $11.

In the San Gabriel Valley in Southen California, we have our pick of banh mi places, including Lee's and Mr. Baguette. My favorite is Banh Mi and Che Cali, which has several branches in Rosemead and San Gabriel. They recently opened a very large location in a former bank which actually has table service (the others are strictly counter order) and has a menu that includes Pho, bun, spring, and summer rolls. A banh mi is $2.50 and it is buy two, get one free. Their desserts also have the same promo and the boba tea is buy one, get one free. Here was my lunch order for myself and two others.Three banh mi
Three desserts
Two boba teas
Total = $11.

Cheating Pho .... at home in the UK
Sometimes you yearn for Pho ..... but when you're in a small village in Hampshire .... so far away from the full Pho ... a bit of cheating is forgiveable and is better than nothing.
Chilli beef with noodles and a pack of Vegetable and beansprout stif fry .... all stir fried and then a couple of cans of beef consomme added and served in an enourmous bowl with some flat leaf parsley and some chopped red chilli slices on top isn't authentic but approximates enough when you're desperate.
I hate to say this ... but it is good.

Time to bump this classic thread. A new Vietnamese place has opened in Durham called the Saigon Grill. It's on Roxboro Street a little north of downtown and while the space is truly unimpressive, the restaurant is not. I got their #5 special today which features: eye round steak, flank, tendon, tripe, brisket and beef meatballs. Mmm.

In San Francisco, there are 2 northern Pho restaurants that make a good bowl of Pho Ga, Quan Bac on Geary and Turtle Tower on Larkin. Try it, you may not go back to Pho Bo (beef).

The best yet: Pho Ha in Pomona, CA on Indian Hill. We have tried Pho up and down the west coast but Pho Ha is still our favorite. Husband is a soup person and he loves this place, their soup is super tasty. The rice noodle actually does not agree with me so I substitute with egg noodle. I know it's not the right way but it's better for me.

Blasphemy!!
