Oh I don't know any Pho chains, if any it would be local city family type shops!

I meant chains as in, the normal big chains, and people skip over all the great local dining. They like the 'ambiance' of chains better or something. I guess it just means they live dull lives and like the same thing all the time!

The only chain in the US that I am aware of is Pho Hoa, their Pho is consistently mediocre.

Another Pho chain from Viet Nam is Pho24, which wants to be the McDonald's of Pho. Their stores are clean and the Pho is average, a bit overpriced for Vietnamese standard.

Found a nice place in Bakersfield, CA called Pho Hut. http://www.phohutrestaurant.com/

Very nice decor and really good pho, nice meat, great broth and noodles. I talked with the owner for a while, he very proudly told me about the old family recipes and how they have to simmer the broth at least 7 hours for it to be ready. Nice place with recessed lighting, nice furnishings, pleasant music, overall a nice experience.

Too much food for me for lunch. I'd sleep all afternoon. Probably average q2 weeks for dinner someplace.

Wow, there's a consolidated pho thread?? Time to fire this bad boy up... but is there anything to make this less unwieldy? Maybe I should look up how to create a wiki header.

Guess I will start one. I went back to posts from 2009 and put down the shops listed. Apologies if I missed yours!

Mods: Feel free to tidy/clean up the wikipost to FT standards (is there one?)

I have been to Vietnam and have had pho in many other countries... The pho is actually the best in the USA since the beef is better. In Vietnam, the beef is a bit anemic, although the broth is still pretty good.

I have not had pho in the US that was as good as in Hanoi. I would love to try specific places in the US that are that good. Suggestions? Thanks

New Orleans has incredibly good vietnamese food. I've added my two favorite places - Dong Phuong in New Orleans East (in the vietnamese suburb of Village de L'est), about 11 miles NE of the french quarter. Incredible, cheap, and so out of the way that only locals ever go there. Restaurant only open for lunch.

I've also added my go-to when I don't feel like driving way out to the east-- Tan Dinh, across the river in Gretna (about 6 miles south of the FQ). Other well known places in the area are Nine Roses and Pho Tau Bay (which is good but I think is overpriced).
