Lunch so far was some pickle chicken and string beans... made a salad (lettuce, tomato, string beans) to have later this afternoon.

Can the sandwich go to 165 by reheating? It’s a $20 sandwich!

I don’t think it quite made it to 165. But the diarrhea wasn’t too bad. I survived.

Wow, they saw you coming. No cereal bogos here.

.

We have a food truck here once a week. They tend to be overpriced. My father in law complained that a lobster roll with not much lobster was $22 a few weeks ago. There’s usually a less expensive option for us cheap folks. Not this time. I don’t think these guys will generate nearly as much revenue if they play a return engagement.

We have a barbecue chain across the highway. I can order by phone and it’s ready when I drive over. A bbq sandwich with 2 sides might be $10. I usually order a pulled pork plate with a massive amount of pork. Comes with 2 sides and I think it’s $14. I’ll be getting my local bbq there from now on.

Dinner last night was pork cutlets with potatoes, guacamole, and tortilla (some had bread!):

Tonight, we had fried fish with rice, killer sauce, and vegies:

Had some Chinese-style vegetables this afternoon (eggplant, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, etc.) with some soy sauce. Very tasty.

Dinner at The Independent: Asian salad (hold the quinoa, hold the rice) with grilled chicken breast. Decent, a step above mediocre. The kimchi was good. I also picked at others' fries, though they gave very few (to the point that we said something and they brought an extra side). I will not return there.

On the way home, stopped at Red Mango for peach froyo with blueberries. Yum!

Still feeling slightly peckish, so I may have some of the salad I finally made. Or I may go to bed.

I know you're cost conscious, so I'm curious why you are buying boxed rice mixes and omitting the spice packet? Presumably you're paying much less for a big bag of rice and a small bag of slivered almonds.

Oh, I’m sure he’ll say it’s about sodium levels.

It’s much cheaper to just buy a 25 pound bag of rice at Costco and season to taste.

Plain congee with salted eggs and "chye-sum". Not sick, just wanted to cleanse a bit and clear out the fridge. (before someone decides to use a raw salted egg in a dish by mistake)

Though reading the ingredient label I see it's actually parboiled rice, so more akin to Minute Rice or Uncle Ben's, and has a couple other grains in it. But still, cheaper options if you're throwing out the spice packet!

rolling pin donuts, San Bruno ca (near Sfo)

during 2020 spring, I bought several box mixes of rice before I figured out how to just boil rice on my own. It was that combo time of pandemic, club price savings, and knowing my abilities. I even was buying pre-Made rice that needed a simple microwave visit. Now I’m trying to use up my inventory as I can.

Breakfast: an 18 day old toasted egg bagel. With cream cheese and a side of after Turkey day spiral cut ham.

Mid afternoon snack: Phillips minincrab cakes with CFA sauce. A few assorted See’s chocolates for dessert. Rum nougat, Scotchmallow and walnut square.

My rice sweet spot is a 2 or 5 pound bag of rice every 2-3 months at Safeway. I can’t actually recall if it’s 2 or 5 pounds. ideally I mix in some black forbidden rice to create the purple rice like the Korean restaurants offer and I’m cooking rice about 2-3 times a week maximum, only for myself.

GW McLintock Dec 4, 2021 6:45 pm

Chicken salad, regular salad, seaweed salad.
