We have DSL through AT&T with no problems. However, I have a friend who has Cricket's USB modem for $42/month with unlimited data.

Their plan seems to have a 5GB monthly "soft" limit, according to the fine print. How much data is 5GB? Or, in more concrete terms, how many YouTube videos is that?

FiOS rules. Fiancee got it and it is insanely fast, on top of being some of the best customer service I have ever come across. If it's good enough to impress my other half, you know it's good. Plus, according to my understanding, the FiOS phone reps speak clear English. That in and of itself makes me want to evangelize the brand.

Our setup is quite atypical, resulting in a VERY annoying few outages where the left half of Veriz:rolleyes:n told me to talk to the right half and the right half told me to talk to the left half. When it's working it's great.

I have to tell you, in all honesty, that I really enjoyed living in my town up until this fiasco. We did an addition to our old house about 8 years ago and had zero problems with the inspectors/permits, etc.

It seems it is just this new inspector that they have hired. Back then, the inspector was on staff. Now they are sub-contracted and it seems they just don't give a damn, and make it a mission to simply pi$$ off all the homeowners and contractors in town simply because they can and they know they have us by the short and curlies...

If he's contracted out it might not be bad to complain to the town since they can demand better service as the insepctor is not living up to the expected standards the town expects and is not keeping current on building trends. This foundation system is hardly new anymore. Check with your GC first though.

FYI, Fios is not available here in Houston. AT&T has U-verse. They keep wanting me to switch over to it.

I'm still on hold with C:rolleyes:mcast. After being transferred to what I was told was the right department, I kept hearing the same muzak loop repeating every 60 seconds or so. After about 20 minutes I gave up and called the number that I was given. What do I hear now? The same l:rolleyes::rolleyes:p. ARGH!

Clear is total crap (at least hear in SEA). All it is is a 3G cell modem.

It's allegedly 4G here in Chicago. The current pricing around here looks promising ($55/mo gets you a home router and a separate USB dongle for when you're out of the house). If it turns out I could get a reliable 2-3 Mbps downlink at Casa de bdjohns1, I'd consider it.

C:rolleyes:mcrap. Never will I buy any of their services/products. And now, they own 51% of NBC.:td:

One of our friends does all sorts of plotting and planning and diagram drawing and all that techie stuff for FiOS in our area. She tells me we are not getting it for at least a year :(

I'm considering ditching C:rolleyes:mcrap as well. If Clear is a viable option and I can convince my wife to remember to charge her cellphone so I can 86 our landline, I can switch us to DirectTV, get DVR from them and stop paying TiVo, ditch the "landline" from Vonage, and knock $80/mo off the monthly house bills.

I also include the Ford Escape in that list. Nightmare vehicle!

Good morning, box. 5B on CO223 SEA-IAH. Sounds like it's going to be great fun going into OMA today.

We are down to zero visability in EAR. It's to get down to 25-40 below with windchill. I want the foxtrot out of here!

Xyzzy Jan 6, 2010 9:28 am

Still on h:rolleyes:ld. They offered to let me use their automated billing system (for the free account I'm calling about) for $2.
