I have no experience with the car other than those two days, but I do have a few friends who have them and talk about how life-revolutionizing they are, etc...so it would be good to hear from the other side!
I have errands to run and I did not expect sleeping past 10, nor did I expect the other half to take the day off in light of her illness. Morning, Box. Should be fun going to check off my to-do list in the frozen tundra. |

I'd kill for $10/day on airport parking. $48/day is way too pricey.

Morning Box.

So my $5 a day in the parking garage I should not complain about?

Yeah, the NYC MTA bridges are all $5.50 per direction. Back in the 80s they decided they would only collect tolls one way on the Verrazano so it's $11. I will gladly cross the VZ to get to Brooklyn, but I always come back through the city and the Holland. I'm too cheap to pay the $11. Incidentally they still have the toll booths on both side, go figure.

That's right, the Verrazano toll is only one way like the other crossings (I don't go to JFK often and I was a little foggy on the drive home). Is there another toll in Staten Island or am I imagining things? If not, I think I overestimated my tolls at $20, but they were still in the $15 range with NJT tolls.
Where are you paying $48/day?? |

While you were away from the Box we were talking about where the Do for that would be. I have the feeling I'll be hosting that for some reason.

Honda was looking at what the aftermarket shops were selling and decided that the new 8th generation Civic should have most of those things in it from the factory and be marketed as a non-entry-level car. With Honda then in need of a stripped down basic crapbox model for the US, they Americanized the EU/JDM version of the Fit.

I'm curious about this too. I would consider getting a Prius and hearing the other side of the argument is very interesting to me.

We took a 2008 used Prius home for the night while we were searching and were not impressed. The interior felt crowded, the car had no pick-up, and was noisier than I thought it would be. We then test drove a 2010 Prius and it ended up being what we bought. After five months of driving it, my wife still loves it. It is quiet but can get up and go on the freeway when you need it to, and the interior is much nicer than the old models. The inside of the 2010 is roomy enough to fit a Christmas tree, evidenced from our ability to fit an almost 7' tree in it. The gas mileage that the car gets is pretty unbelievable. On the side streets I've been able to get 65mpg while on the freeway it averages about 45-50mpg. I rode in a friend's Honda Insight and was glad we didn't buy one. The displays are cluttered, the car's gasoline engine never shuts off, just adjusts to driving conditions, and it is much smaller. |

I really hate the PT Cruiser. In fact, there are only two cars I have told Hertz and Avis I will not take under any circumstances: The PT Cruiser and the Prius. :)

The drive to JFK caused my EZ-Pass to recharge (+$25) just a week after it had already recharged. Stupid Verrazano Bridge tolls. A drive to an airport should never involve over $20 in tolls.

For a while, there were a lot of Altimas in the system. That was basically my default ES car unless there was something "interesting" to drive. |
For those Boxer's who live in Houston, what internet service provider do you all use?
I'm thinking of getting rid of cable (currently provided through Comcast) and replacing it with internet service, but I'm not sure who to go with or what type of service to get. I don't have a landline, nor do I want one; I currently have a cell phone through Sprint. Any thoughts? Naked DSL through ATT? Cable internet through Comcast? One of those USB internet modems through Sprint? |
