Congrats!

My New Year's resolution is to not fly DL this year, unless it's to spend some of the miles I have on them.

+1

I'm in a strict burn mode on DL and have gotten two decent BE itins already. Two more to go.

We transferred Amex and Diners Club points to DL last week to get the transfer bonuses in quantities just sufficient to put each of us at a level where we can redeem a domestic F ticket. Our plan is to find a use for those and be done with DL for good.

They may be random and numerical, but they're never meaningless.:p

I'm done with DL until their next mistake fare (preferably international) comes around. :)

How can you count how many box posts you have? Is there a Box-o-matic counter?

Back from a wonderful weekend with naugthy Quebecois in Montreal. Thanks all for the birthday wishes, and Happy New Decade to each and every one of you.

Coming back from YUL yesterday was fun. My original AC flight got cancelled, and I was rebooked YUL-YYZ-EWR, with YUL-YYZ overbooked by 3. Of course I volunteered, got a CAD 200 voucher (since exchanged to a $192 USD voucher by AC's ticket desk at Newark), and was rebooked onto a YUL-EWR nonstop on AC. The AC Jazz flight was delayed 3 hours, as was the COCO flight leaving at the same time. Not flying COCO proved to be a blessing in disguise given the sh!tshow that unfolded at Newark.

AC Jazz was just like ExpressJet inflight except they use CRJs. Beer and wine were comped on account of the delay, so I had a Bud Light accompanied with two bags of some extremely tasty corn chips. Now to figure out where to use that voucher...

How was your BE experience?

In general, delta air lines flyers are people who ought to raise their standards. :p

May the light of the shining Star Alliance illuminate the path to greatness in your future travels.

From the main Continental OnePass page, you can click on the number for this thread in the "replies" column. It assists the obsessive folks like me. :D

Actually, it was very enjoyable (of course, sitting up front on a $230 r/t fare helped). The crew (NY based) was extremely professional, attentive and friendly - one of the best I've had actually. The food was typical for a US carriers business class offering (and similar to previous DL BE experiences) - decent but nothing to write home about. I've always appreciated how DL tries to be a little more creative with their BE dishes (i.e. they offered a carrot and ginger soup on today's flight).

The only negative is the BE seats on the 763. They're terrible. Sure, they have a pretty comfortable cradle position (and they beat Y any day) but they're worn, a little too hard and far too narrow for my liking.

Question for the Box:

When did YOU first come to witness the illuminating superiority of the Star Alliance?

I will begin the testimony. I first came to Star Alliance back in 2000-2001, when I was a United groupie. Though smaller at that time, Star Alliance was still immensely beneficial in terms of expanding airline options, particularly for TATL flying. However, after the 2000 SFH and 9/11, I left the light of Star for Continental.

But, in 2006, I signed up for a US Airways Trial Gold Preferred promo that went horribly wrong, givng everyone who signed up free Gold Preferred status in 2007. Gold Preferred confers Star Gold, so I enjoy that benefit, and visited Star Gold lounges in the most random spots, like Durban, South Africa.

And of course, with the events of October 27, 2009, my travel soul has been permanently mated to wonders of Star.

What say you?

I certainly agree that Star offers far better carriers, but I've never quite understood the bad reputation that DL gets (at least when considering their in-flight service - I know SkyMiles is garbage...). Most of the crews I've had in recent years have been friendly, most of the aircraft have been in decent shape, their focus on rolling out AVOD, TV and WiFi on their fleet has been impressive and most of their food offerings aren't too bad. I'm not saying they're great, but I certainly think they're better than the bad reputation they receive.
