I've had broken toes. Who knew such a little thing (the pinky toe) could hurt that much or make such a sound when broken! What we do to get out of doing the housework!

I just paid $2,100.00 for a flight to Toronto tomorrow morning...on an ERJ...and I couldn't get the A-side exit row seat. That's a new one for me...I could have flown to Bangkok for less!!!!

I am bumming off this info, and am going to make my purchase soon. I need 9100 to keep my plat status, so this is perfect. First wkend of dec. sat with sun ret. This is going to be my first real MR, not too complicated of one. But should be fun. It comes to about 5.5 cpm.

Is it still correct that I can't be listed until I'm at the departing gate of the operating flight? My connection in CLE is 1hr6, and I think it's right that the agents in PHL can't list me on the connection. Downsides of booking tight connections, I guess.

Wow. Standing at C125 at EWR and 70 got downgauged to a 752 from a 764. It is a fun sight, watched a fight almost break out. At least I am not going to AMS tonight.

Any agent that knows the entries can add you to the upgrade standby list. The agents in the first city can do this. What they can't do is clear you into FClass, only those agents working the flight can do so.

What kind of certificate are you using?

Industry space-avail. Mom's a TA, gave them to me for 2 of 3 mainline segments on the trip, explicitly telling me (and I agree) not to blow upgrade certs on CLE-PHL...an hour in the back on a half full 738 isn't bad at all. I'm trying for CLE-MCO on 9/11, CO1071, and MCO-CLE on 9/15, CO1870. If none of the mainlines clear, I'm holding on to them for flying home Christmas morning.

My wife and I are the opposite, we plan vacations far out. I think we had the honeymoon plans finalized before the wedding. :D

Speaking of which, we're thinking of Italy in the end-Feb/early March time frame (my wife's birthday and some work constraints put us at this date, but with a weak dollar I figure off season will help us) and figured to get some box input before I scour the Italy forums. We're thinking of 9 nights, 3 in Venice, 3 in Florence and 3 in Rome (don't want to move around too much). To those that have been, how does that sound? Too long in Venice, not enough in Rome, just right?

Yeah, IAH-YYZ is insane. I posted a few pages back about my dad paying ~$1,500 for a ticket and was lucky enough to get an exit row.

My IAH-PHL flight looks pretty full and I doubt I will get an upgrade. Looks like 6F will be my seat on the way up. :(

Flights between PHL and IAH can be surprisingly difficult for upgrades. In my experience, Friday afternoons/evenings are the most difficult.

For my 2 cents, the 3 nights in Venice is just about right but I would swap one of the Florence nights for an extra night in Rome. There is so much variety to see and do (and eat) in Rome that the 4 nights will just fly by whereas in Florence, unless you are a dedicated museum-goer, you can hit the highest points in two days and, for me, a third day is just an endless string of more images of "Christo Morto."

If you can, at that time of year try to schedule Venice as close to exactly between the phases of the moon as you can in order to avoid the "acqua alta," or high water that floods the streets from time to time. Also, do check out a lovely boutique hotel in Canareggio that was the scene of an FT Do a few years ago. It is called Ai Mori d'Oriente and was at that time (and likely still is) one of the few great bargains in lodgings to be found there. In Rome, I would prefer to stay somewhere near historical sites such as the Piazza Minerva (at the Pantheon and Piazza Navona) as opposed to something more glamorous touted as being "near the Spanish Steps."

Remember, there will be serious disagreements with the above opinions but as I said, it is just my 2 cents worth. I do hope that whatever you decide as a schedule, that you have a great trip.
