I'm not a beer drinker but I figured that I better taste a Guinness while in Ireland.
It also deserves notation that any beer with so much possible variety for outcome (based on the pour?!?!?) might need to have some rethinking dedicated to it...the Guinness people apparently never met the Six Sigma people. |
I stopped by the Delta club in MCO. I was expecting a dilapidated dirty club for some reason but was pleasantly surprised. It has a bright airy feel to it and reminded me of the Golden Girls house with all the whicker furniture. At the front desk were Susanne Sugarbaker and Blanch Devaroe, who checked my ID but were unsure if a co pc member was allowed to enter and were even further confused if I should be allowed to bring in a guest:rolleyes:. Anyways, I did enjoy it there, spent about an hour there enjoying vodka-cranberry, and olives:)
Oh and by the way, the internet was free. I though I may have read Someplace that they charge for the internet. |

Oh, forgot - quite the number of Texans in here. :p
Girlfriend got me started on them and I like most of their catalog. Saw them at Boardwalk Hall last year and they put on one of the best live shows out there right now. We went to one of her friends' weddings and their version of "God Blessed the Broken Road" was the wedding song. Big ^ to that; it's an awesome cover. I used to not do country at all, and she's getting me slowly into it. |

I am at a wedding right now in Dallas and they used that song too. The guy that sang it was really good.

Hope at least part of the weekend was fun!
How big of planes are they sending over to MSY? Any 767s or 777s, or just the big 73's and 757s? At the IAH PClub drinking now... since everything at MSY was closed. And yes.... we had a blast. I'll see if we have pics to share ;) |
At least they're doing it much better this time. I just saw Mayor Nagin on CNN basically ordering tourists out of the city. ^

Looking at Flightaware.com, WN made many 88xx flights this evening to HOU and DAL, while DL a few 98xx flights to ATL and elsewhere. Even NW has opearted 752s to Louisville (why?) and UA to DEN.
What has CO done? Upgraded 872 to a 739 and CO4 to a 753. That's about it. What the heck? |
I think you hit it on the head in the other post...fleet flexibilities. Even if they do have the a/c to spare, they would have to crew it.
|
Saw this in routine eBay perusals: thought it was a good haha for the Box.

Istanbul RULES. Must do's include Korfez, the Spice Bazaar, and of course Topkapi Paclace and the Blue Mosque. Just a spectacular city. And Korfez was one of the best dinners ever, ever.
ETA: Korfez was among the spots hit by JFK Jr. and Caroline on their honeymoon, and people go for the sea bass, which is fished from the back pier of the restaurant. You can also lay claim to having dinner on another continent, since it's on the Asian side. The sea bass is encrusted in salt and broiled...while one would think that a salt casing would suck all the moisture from the fish, in this case it's just the opposite. The wooden case with the salt covering is then brought tableside and opened in a flambe style, with the salt getting cracked thanks to a combination of a mallet and fire. It's just too cool. http://travel.nytimes.com/travel/gui...=1154654638490 |
Bah. It sucks being back. I think there's something like 70 pages of Box to catch up on. :o Not to mention this whole big kerfuffle of UA selling food on certain TA routes.
A couple things to note: I have to say that I was uber impressed by LH's J offering yesterday. I've never been a fan of anything LH but our flight was very good. The food was excellent (!) and the seat, compared to the PrivatAir flight, was great. It made me realize how horrible the CO BF seats are. I'm sure I'll be heading back to FRA in the upcoming months. I'm not sure if I'm going to take LH or CO now. Once CO officially joins the *, if their BF product doesn't get much better with the new seat, I'll be doing LH back and forth if I get cleared to sit up front. Won't even think twice about it. I'd never flown out of MUC before and it really makes FRA seem like a disorganized dump (which it is). What an amazing airport. To "Gunther" the fat German sitting behind me coughing the entire flight: I hate you. I'm now coughing. And am sick. I sound like a swallowed a walrus and it's trying to escape. Overall I was actually relatively impressed by JK. Their "Business" class was competitive with intra-EU LH C. Between BCN and MUC we were served duck, which was as shocking as it was good. Attentive service and complimentary drinks. Despite crap pitch, I didn't think it was bad at all. Between FUE and BCN we were served fried pork in a garlic sauce. How could that be bad... I think I'm going to dub JK the "common sense airline". It's a hybrid between DL's Simplifares and what US is doing. They pioneered the full-service airline that sells sodas mind-you. But here's where JK gets it right. They sell tickets in 4 "classes" of service. The 2 bottom classes are a la carte pricing. The 2 top you get complimentary services. There's certain benefits for buying different classes of service and they spell it out very clearly. It makes flying and buying so simple. Instead of trying to decipher an H fare you buy an "Avant" which means you're on a refundable ticket and you get on-board services for free. Clear as day. I'm sure there's some behind the scenes fare manipulation based on routes and how far in advance stuff is purchased (that would only make sense). From the consumer side instead of just giving me the lowest fare option (which is what every airline in the US tries to do) it gives you all the different fare options in a grid. And shows you, "hey, for $20 more, you can get services X, Y, Z." They try and upsell themselves, something US airlines would greatly benefit from. It's so much more fair than the US "everyone pays for everything" model. Which infuriates the poor folks paying $1200 to fly in coach from PHL to BDL on an RJ, and then they have to pay to check their luggage, and pay for a glass of water. But here's where my allusions of JK being intelligent go pear-shaped. They're hemorrhaging money. I'd love to go into their balance sheet and see where and how. They're in a hyper-competitive market saturated with leisure routes, which I'm sure doesn't help anything. And I'm sure their labor costs are pretty astronomical. And they run an inefficient fleet of Mad Dogs. I doubt they'll stay in business much longer. But, I think there's some lessons to be learned from them for the US market. |

Dragging this 10 week old post back up, we had dinner at Korfez two nights ago. Mike wasn't joking at all about anything related to the meal. It was a phenomenal experience and phenomenal food. I can't say enough good things about it. The only drawback was the traffic getting to the boat to cross the Bosphorus, but everything else was amazing. Oh, and there are no prices on the menu, so that may be a bit disconcerting, but the prices were very reasonable for the meal served.
Thank you sir. :D ^ Great post about it too. I knew you'd enjoy the views crossing the river. Now you have another cocktail party story: "So, this one time, my wife and I changed continents to have dinner..." |

Observations re: JK - very interesting. It'll probably make a great case study...where's J. Edward when you need him? Brian Regan announced Borgata for 11/15 - he's probably right up your alley. |
man, I haven't been here in awhile. Yeah UA is hosed with selling food on a TA flight.
