Same here. No more worrying about upgrades or picking the best J seat - I could just take a Gulfstream IV around the world each week. :D

How big are their bathrooms? ssullivan wants to know. :p

I'd charter at least a BBJ, which is basically a 737. The Gulfstream may be private, but it's a little tight on space. Kind of like jetting around in your own CRJ. If I had that kind of money, I'd want a plane I could stand up in without hitting my head.

Actually, forget the BBJ. I think I'd want a personal widebody...

Of course. I wouldn't be here if I simply wanted points. This is a full-blown disease.

You make a good point - it's hard to think about a $2M/week budget. :D A 747 would certainly do.

Yep. Some people smoke. Some do drugs. Some drink. And then there are those that collect, and use, miles and points for free premium travel. And then there are those of us who do a combination of more than one of the above. :D

(Hmm... now where did I put those WN drink coupons? My flight departs LBB in 2 hours.)

I'm not saying that I wouldn't collect them, but I also wouldn't worry nearly as much about them. Heck....Just the spending on AmEx would be an easy collection of points.

And I've thought about the private plane thing before. I think I'd rather fly commercially still, at least some of the time. I actually like the experience, crazy as that may be. I enjoy the airports, the lounges, the terminals, the people, etc. I wouldn't want to become a recluse just because I had the money that would allow me to do so. I don't think that would be any fun.

Wait - you use your miles and points?! That is still a very hard thing for me to do! I'll spend some on upgrades here and there but the thought of not earning miles on a trip just kills me!

Oh, passing the time in LBB, where 20 minutes feels like 20 days.

In other news, I've bought a slew of domains in the last few days and I'm seriously considering just up and leaving my job to pursue my own thing, just gotta figure out if it is economically feasible.

Yep. Since 2000 I've redeemed about 5 standard European BusinessFirst awards on CO, 5-10 domestic standard awards (usually in F), about 10 standard upgrade rewards (both domestic F and BF to Europe), plus TONS of free hotel nights. And I've also cleared out my DL account with domestic trips, and used a few WN Rapid Rewards award tickets. And then there's the tons of free rental car days I've redeemed. After all, what good is all that stuff if I never use it?

All told, I've probably redeemed close to $50,000 of free travel in the last 8 years. And I still manage to keep my OnePass, Marriott, and Hilton balances well into the 6 digits on each account.

Mmmm - freedom from corporate red tape and the daily grind.

Yep. And then followed by flying WN home because CO refuses to offer a LBB-IAH flight later than 4:15 PM.

So are you going to make it tonight?

Yep, but it sure beats flying to Europe in Y!

And I'm working on those Star Alliance points too.

Doubtful. :(

The shop still hasn't called me to let me know if the car is done. Kind of a bummer. At least I get a kolache stop on the way to Austin tomorrow.

ssullivan May 8, 2008 2:52 pm

You drive to Austin? What fun is that? There's no EQMs in driving!
