If it isn't, than it wouldn't be a company trip for theblakefish...it would be a well-deserved office day at the casa! ;) So, I could buy two r/t's EWR-SIN for the price of a 3.25 hour erj flight to Toronto....and I'm not in an exit row seat... :(

According to COFlyerCLE, they did add at least one extra flight, because he was on it.

It was dead because none of us were at work yesterday. :)

No more honeymooners expecting a free upgrade to FClass, just because they are on their honeymoon.
No more nights of having 5 outbound flights in the space of 4 hours.

I can't wait! I'm so ready to not have to deal with the mobs of kids and clueless families at the ticket counter, security checkpoint, and gate.

Ouch!

I managed to mess up my ankle yesterday at a friend's cookout. He has a lovely deck area, that's built on three levels. Each level is one step down from the one above it, but there's no railing or anything between the levels. The deck just steps down, and the "step" runs the full width of the deck. All of the wood is painted, and from some angles you can't see the steps. I was walking over to the table we were going to sit at and turned around to say something to my partner and stepped off the step to the lower level not realizing it was there. I didn't fall or anything, but did twist my right ankle. Not fun. And I wasn't the only person who did it — two other people stumbled over that same place in the deck.

I don't understand why so many people still don't have seat assignments in this day and age before they get to the airport. How is it that all of these people are buying tickets online and not clicking the seat map and selecting seats?

Frankly, I don't even understand why the airlines give you an option of not selecting seats at the time of purchase. To me it would be a lot easier for everyone if the website simply put you in the seat map and said "You must pick seats to proceed," rather than giving you the option of not selecting seats. It would make it so much easier for everyone, and help eliminate this nonsense of a family buying tickets six months in advance when the seat map is wide open, then b!tching at the gate agent at the airport an hour before departure when they have nothing but middle seats spread out over five different rows throughout the plane.

I know this for a fact as I got a full dose of  at EWR on thursday .

+1 on this. We have our honeymoon picked out already, but not a departure date. There's a specific 10-day Princess itinerary for Eastern Caribbean that we both want, and we're both nuts enough to attempt to schedule a wedding around the cruise.

I didn't want to be at work yesterday, but it turned out not so bad. I was having a lousy string of customer interactions that were driving me nuts because I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong when I found out I got a nice guest letter and consequently a $50 "Talent Tip" from the house. Girlfriend got a $50 last week that we're dining out on Wednesday night, so it'll be my turn after that.

You're a rather savvy traveler, as are most of us here. The mandatory seat picker should be there for just such a case: the infrequent traveler that doesn't have a good grip on how to travel. I stressed this to the girlfriend's family when we went to Disney...get seats and hold on to them, especially with little kiddies that had to be seated with certain adults. The seat map became a game of Chinese Checkers.

Ouch back. What was he thinking not doing rails? Yikes! Thats a home owners claim looking to happen.

Lest yee not forget that airlines do something called overselling in which they sell a product that they don't have in inventory. As someone who occasionally buys tickets last minute, there are no seats for me to select.

I've also found that if all that's left is 48E on the seat map, I'm better going in without a seat assignment. If I have a seat they're less likely to move me [to a better seat]. But if I've got nuttin' then they're obligated to find a spot for my rump.

CO makes the game so much easier with the real time PDA maps.

Gracias.

We were driving on the NJT yesterday as the SQ 340-5 was coming in for final. It stung just a little. ;)

But, yeah, we had a nice time. Definitely good to get away for 2 weeks.

baglady Sep 2, 2008 7:57 am

Glad to have you back, Belynch.

This one always boggles my mind. How could you not realize that advance seat assignments are possible (unless you are used to flying WN).? And, if they used a travel agent, the travel agent should reserve seats together for such families.

This usually happens because one of the couple's idiot friends has some story (of questionable veracity) about how they just asked at the gate and were upgraded on their honeymoon flights to LAS/HNL/MCO/wherever.
