BA is looking like the best redemption opportunity so far for getting to IPC. BA's program considers IPC to be part of S. America, so a U.S.--->IPC redemption in J on LA would only be 80K BA miles per person.

Ok, I finally got a competent agent who was able to check all the route combinations and booked the route that I wanted in under 15 minutes. ^

Hmmm... LA is showing J reward availability x2 for flights into SCL around New Year's. @:-)

Yeah, too bad for us we've got a ton of conflicts with work in the January-early April period.

What did you book, if you don't mind sharing?

Wow, that's incredibly generous of them.

I had checked AA's reward chart earlier when I had a few minutes, but they have an exception marked on their South American awards for Easter Island.

According to Wikipedia IPC is the most remote airport in the World .

Yet More Stellar Airline Reporting...

CNN Ranks Which Airlines Are Best w/r/t Debundled Fees

DL is ranked third-best:

3. Delta
Among the major carriers, Delta has done the best job of holding the line on fees: no charge for the first checked bag ($25-$50 for the second), free drinks and blankets, and a change fee that hasn't increased from $100.
CO rates fifth:

5. Continental
No charge for the first checked bag ($25 for the second) and it's holding the line on the other freebies, like drinks and blankets, as well as still offering free meals like sandwiches, burgers and pizza. But they recently raised their change fee from $100 to $150.
To be quite honest, I think CO is ahead of DL (very slightly) in the collective race to the cellar. Last I checked, DL has been BoB on long flights for some time, and provided only a meager "snack basket" on shorter flights. We may complain about the Cheeseburger, Pizza, or Turkey Grenade, but I would prefer any of those over the Snack Basket. Further, at least when CO restricted Sleazypass, it didn't decide to piss on its elites and tell them it was raining.

What amazes me is that anyone expects stellar reporting from CNN on any level at all anymore. I think it's a guarantee that the news is out of touch to the point that their take on any given issue is not that of the majority audience they are seeking.

I would suggest to go to MP some time in early summer. This summer has been pretty mild, although last week the cold hit and we are now in 'real' winter mode. If you go too late in the winter there are good chances that you are going to get up to MP and not be able to see much of the surrounding mts and area bc it is so foggy/cloudy/rainy. I have been several times but, my friend was lucky bc the 2nd day we were there it was clear. My aunt et al left this morning so in a few days I can give an up date of what it is like in August.

Also I would suggest the MP Sanctuary Lodge up top for a place to stay the night if that is what you are going to do. Very nice and small, and you will be one of the first in the next day bc buses dont start going up till about 7ish.

Here are some cloudy day pics.

Thanks for the suggestions! Right now very late April/May looks best for our schedules. What's the weather typically like that time of year?

patalan Aug 6, 2008 4:49 pm

April starts to cool down. Maybe mid to high 70s during the day and mid 60s during the night time. Up until a week and a half ago I was wearing short sleeves and some times long sleeves and jeans/slacks during the day. Although, it is kind of like California, nice during the days and cools off at night (so a golf jacket, fleece, sweat shirt).

Also if you are going into the mts. due to the higher elevations it is cooler obviously. Although you are also close to the sun, kind of give and take. I got sun burned and it was -5C haha.

A standard J reward to Southeast Asia (SIN, BKK, CGK, HKG, etc.) from North America using any combination of KE and NW is 120k roundtrip as long as there are standard J reward seats available on each segment, correct?

You would not believe the some of the things I've heard from agents today ("you have to do it as a round the world;" "it's an extra 70k miles to travel beyond NRT or ICN anywhere in Southeast Asia;" "KE is not a valid partner ();" "the computer won't let me price it;" and other assorted statements).

That sounds like perfect weather to me! Neither one of us is especially fond of hot weather, so cooler is better.
