Trip Report: CM and fiancee break the Five Guys cherry: 1/21/09, Deptford, NJ

Upon entering, it was dead at about 12:20pm...

Not knowing anything about the place except for Box reports, I asked about the size of the burgers and the guy working the register says "Three grams." When I told him that a paperclip weighs about a gram, he had one of the ladies at the grill lift a patty for me to see. Way to go, smart guy.

Me: Bacon cheeseburger, lettuce, raw onion, mayo, ketchup.
Her: Cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, sauteed onion, pickles, lettuce, mayo, mustard, ketchup.

We split a large fry and had leftovers in the cup.

Peanuts were just a little bit salty right out of the shell and were great.

Overall: I got the sense that I was paying for freshness, but the burger didn't taste too far off from Fuddruckers to me. The fries on the other hand were most excellent, even moreso since I love peanut oil fries. Next time the Cajun fries are on the to-do list. I'd go back, but it seems just kinda average.

Client ordered in so-so Tex Mex for lunch. Now a couple of people are sick. Fortunately I'm not, but several of them are. This training class is going down the toilet… literally.

I think the soup and sandwiches they ordered yesterday were a safer choice.

FM for the Do/Meet/Thing is now caught up with all posted flights. Phew.

Do tell. Infant vomit on you, child kicking seat constantly, fragrant seatmate?

I have had two out of these three things happen to me on flights.

I have a hunch that fragrant seatmates will be populating all of F on the party flight.

Five Guys is nearly as prolific as Starbucks in the DC-area, so I've had time to be underwhelmed by nearly everything on the menu. They're good burgers and good fries. Not the best I've had, not the most interesting, just consistently good. They have a limited menu that they do well, and it's a reliable place to grab lunch.

I am generally disappointed with the "cajun fries." I think the plain ones are quite tasty and the spice mix doesn't add much. But as a Marylander, I'm mostly confused as to why they don't have Old Bay on them instead. ;)
