My beloved New Jersey Devils also use a 727-200 for their team charter.

Some old timers will you they loved the 27-200's from a standpoint of cabin noise and comfort. The flight engineer, 3 man crew made them infeasible, but they were still in fleets of some LCC's in this decade: ATA, for one, Vanguard for another.

If you treat your Momma nicely, she may pass on some of those squillion british pounds she inherited and then you can afford to have a cleaner come in and do such mundate tasks while you relax eating bonbons on the sofa :p

I remember being very surprised when I'd first learned that FedEx has their own ATC people to handle MEM after the FAA crew goes home.

MEM does run a tight ship - with all the different traffic they have and essentially parallel runways (there's one of four that's not oriented 18/36) the only time I've been delayed there was due to an ice storm. And that delay wasn't attributable to the airport or ATC - staff to push back planes couldn't get to work.

BNA has a C-130 unit and is also the worldwide schoolhouse for foreign air forces that are buying -130's, on top of being HQ TNANG. @:-)

Let me know if you want to bail this evening.

Thanks, but it doesn't look like I'll be able to make it though I much rather be in your company. We're going to end late and then I need to feed the others that are with me so guess we'll have to do it some other time. Maybe we'll meet up sometime in Vegas.

AA finally retired theirs in 2002, when I was a corporate trainer. I believe that if I had maintained a flight memory, the 727 would have been number 1 on my list until 2004 or so.

Does anyone know, FedEx doesn't route *everything* thru MEM anymore, do they? At one time, they did.

Actually, when the companion upgrades don't come through I always offer her the F seat but she usually doesn't take it. She prefers the Window and would rather have a window in Y than an aisle in F. I always make sure that my F seat is an aisle just so she won't want it :D

Very true. Economics and politics are the underlying disciplines that make a coherent study of history possible.

Close - the left, center and right runways are 02/20. The long strip of which you speak is 13/31. The long strip at ACY for commercial and military is 13/31, and the GA runway is 4/22. I crossed both of those runways while driving truckloads of ammo many times, and that's one of the few things I miss about the job - driving on the airfield never gets old.

Speaking of shenagins, CO PerroInsider solved my dog class schedule situation and we're suddenly in the class.^ Now PerroInsider can concentrate on unconfined perros in the cabin.

I think a lot goes through EWR (yeah....like we really need the extra air traffic there).

Mom GadFly was born a raised in Memphis and we still have a lot of friends and family down there. I once met a distant uncle (I think) who flew DC-10's from MEM to GIG a few times a week. He had a second house down there and would bring his wife with him sometimes. Pretty sweet assignment!

I'll bet if you knew where to look on Google Earth, the desert boneyards are full of them. I don't have GE on this computer, but Marana Air Park just off I-10 about 20mi N of TUS toward PHX, is a likely place.

The C-130s park along Murfreesboro Road - look at the bottom center of the photo in the Wikipedia article. The road is hard to see unless focusing well, as runway 2C/20C does cross over the road. The large white roof building (bottom left) is part of the Johnston and Murphy shoe outlet.

A former family friend of ours had an uncle who at one point was the #2 seniority pilot at UPS. Left seat 747 guy, and narrowbody instructor pilot. IIRC his mandated work schedule per his seniority before he bumped out of the 747 due to age was ONE eight-day roundtrip: SDF-LAX-ANC-HKG and back.
