Japan has foreign ownership limits just like the USA, however, so it is not entirely clear to me what is going on there. Buying 20% of the airline isn't a controlling stake.

True, but that investment seems to be enough leverage for the the alliance shift that AF wants so they can capture more of the Japanese domestic feed and business travelers who do not want to deal with the shuffle to/from NRT.

I've got to deal with BD and Hilton. I'm missing a ton of miles from June forward — the last BD miles I've had post were in May, and I've got about 20,000 miles from Hilton stays I'm owed since then. I know there's a delay, but I'm a little worried the June and July miles still haven't been posted.

On AA can one put a reward tix on hold for 24 hours? An exec wants to do that and I've never played with AA before.

I believe reward reservations can be put on hold for 5 days or at least that was the case when I booked my ticket to PRG.

ETA but I did it all over the phone.

I have, although I noticed last week Hilton's system seemed to be chopping off the 0000.
