JFC, I awoke this morning to a cracked windshield! It's not small either. it starts out at the bottom & looks like a V with a ~12" spread on both sides! The car was last driven Tuesday and didn't show any signs of it then. It's been parked in the heat ever since, so I'm guessing that it had a weak spot or was hit by something (it's so low -- below the wiper -- that I think it'd be hard to get hit with something there, though) and after sitting in this ungodly heat for a few days, started to show.

When I lived in Virginia, I had to get my windshield replaced (2000) - apparently got hit by a rock right behind the big, square inspection sticker and didn't see the break/crack until it spread past that and the tax sticker of the same size ...

I'm likely to take the train down, too, if you guys are on it. Let me know which one and I'll see about picking it up in NYP.

I PM'd the train times I picked to Steve GadFly and to fozz, just in case. I'll forward that to you in a minute. Micro-Do at the snack car. :D

Indeed. I had heard of it before you suggested it, and for whatever reason passed on it. The on-field product is still too slow for me to watch regularly, but the knowledge of behind the scenes in the front office is fun beyond belief to read. I'm the same way with football: I can watch it, and I enjoy watching it more than baseball, but I get more mental satisfaction out of reading Tuesday Morning Quarterback.

Good Friday Morning, Box.

Morning Box.

So will IAH try to match the expected  in EWR today?

All I can say is poor JEdward.

I have a sinking suspicion that my car's A/C died in the last day or two. I drove home from my fiancee's on Monday morning and it was fine. Didn't drive much all week, then ran to Costco last night for a bag of Purina only to find that the air blowing out wasn't really all that cold.

Re: cracked windshield - I used to detail cars, and a guy that I worked with brought a Porsche in the shop that had been dropped off outside on a very hot day. The temperature change from outdoors to the detail bay of about 30 degrees only took about 10 minutes to affect the back windshield...all of a sudden we hear this small cracking noise, like a kid walking on pebbles or something. Then it gets louder and more intense, and nobody knows where it's coming from...we look at the back of the Porsche and the rear glass is spiderwebbed all the way thru.

Jeez... a man drinks a 12-pack of Modelo and wants to share the love, and can't manage to shake the FT Papparrazos. What's this world coming to.

My car doesn't have AC - I bought it new without that feature (although listed as an $800 feature, the same car with AC cost $2,000 more).

I only use my AC when its an operational necessity, e.g. its humid and pouring buckets so I have to have my windows up and I need the AC to defog the windows. Reference: today.

I love going to get my oil changed or some routine maintenance and the guys will say "you need to change your AC filter" or some sort of similar  and I fire back "really? Did you even look at it?" And they pull it out and its spotless.

When I lived in PHX I'd be the only shmuck driving around with my windows down in August.

This is a constant source of  for the Canuck.

I'm with the Canuck on this one.:o@:-):-:

I hardly ever have the A/C off. In winter it's invaluable when defogging the windows and during the summer it's just plain necessary. :-::-:

I live in Florida and A/C is a requirement especially on those hot summer days when it is humid and 90F.

My last two cars have come with digital climate control and I now keep the temp right around 72-74F. This is in stark contrast to the day of the hot/cold dial with a button for A/C when I generally kept the dial on most cold setting, only adjusting the fan as needed.

I do essentially all the maintenance on my car except changing the oil, so I don't deal with those statements at all. It's cheaper for me (with coupons) to have my oil changed at the Firestone down the hill from my home, and I post on FT / search for items on eBay during the time.

:mad::mad:

She'll mail you a Timmy Ho's coupon.

I flipped the breaker that controls the A/C in the house when we first moved in. I was out of town the other week and she called me complaining the A/C wasn't working. She was going to call the builder to see if he could come and  with it. I had to give in and told her I disabled it.

The A/C's been on ever since.:mad::mad:

I didn't think cars were sold anymore without A/C, especially in the deep south.

Almost any oil change is cheaper than doing it yourself when you figure in your time and the  associated with safe disposal of used oil. SkyMall had a pretty cool oil change tool that would make life easier, but the fact remains that you still have to transport that crap if you do it yourself.

My buddy owns a garage and he gives me access to the bays during off hours. :-::-::-:

Unfortunately sometimes the reality of time gets the better of me and I just relent and take it in to an oil swap shop. I bring them my own synthetic oils and filters though. And watch to make sure they actually use it.

In 1998, this was indeed a feature of Fords sold in Maryland (which does have 110 heat index days).

I do have the drain and my recycling center does have the used motor oil capability; no major worries but four quarts of decent oil + filter frankly is more at the store than the entire oil change is at the shop (after coupon). It's very much a "duh" decision.
