Le sigh..
I just found out my fridge was set way too cold (it was warm when i got here so i turned it up..) and my fresh mozzarella is now frozen into a block of water/brine/whatever it is they have mozzarella float around in. |
normally it is the milk moisture, in the US we get cheese that is 'low moisture' most of the time but the fresh mozzie is in the milk 'waters' which is a bit briny due to the salts in the cheese.
I'd recommend getting plenty boursin while you are there :) |

I just feel starved for human contact and intelligent conversation. I did not realize how much I used to talk - even to random people - prior to this. I thought i was standoff-ish and anti-social. Apparently not.
I can't really talk to the french, and they seemingly have no desire to even try to communicate with me (except lots of people want me to take their picture at various tourist sights). Went to some church today, it had mutes outfront with some petition - i dunno what about, they were mute and i can only read a little french - but it occured to me that i've been quite mute myself so far. I'm so busy trying to be polite and not be a loud obnoxious American that i've mostly been very quiet, nearly mute. In the group I work/tour/travel with I think we're all that the point of being sick of each other too.. so communication within it has broken down to grunts, gestures, and one word answers. I feel like the dog at the pet store that just a little too old to be a cute puppy and that everyone just passes by. I'd love to learn about the culture and the people, really be in and part of it - but everything ends up being me looking through the glass as an outsider. Or, venture out to some of the myriad cities within a few-hour train ride of Paris - AMS, London, Frankfurt, and Geneva all come to mind. Or, take a trip down to Bordeaux or another province and visit some smaller towns. I think you might like the atmosphere a bit better, and would no doubt enjoy some good food and wine along the way. |
KNRG . There's always an easy train to AMS too. But if you're starved for english I say Eurostar it over to London.

If I did not already have a vacation planned at the end of next week I'd fly over to Geneva myself. :D
I could probably get it in paid BF for another purpose as well, but I don't wish to lead them to believe I am interested in coming there, so taking it on their dime would be wrong. |

That sucks - replacing the garage door opening sys. is like replacing the roof -- no one else can really see it, as it's not a new 'addition'! If you have a Costco membership -- I've seen that they have a garage door opener installation deal -- don't know how much, though.
Good luck w/that!

Thanks. I don't have a Costco membership but either way, all the hardware on the door, tracks, springs, etc. need to be replaced so I'm glad a professional is doing it. I'm pretty handy but I think if I tried to do it myself, I'd probably  it up.

Last year I replaced my double garage door and a single door at a friends house. I had to replace it all, tracks, springs, door, ect and I am glad I did it myself. I saved a ton of money. I didnt know what I was doing, but I figured it all out with only one  moment.

A discussion of AF 477 led me into conducting a scientific study around the work lunch table today by telling some of those WTC jokes I linked a few days ago. The results of the study? We fail to reject the null hypothesis that it is indeed too soon.

What is all this talk of taking the train??? This sounds like a great opportunity to hit a few new airports and countries to me!! :) |
I just talked to a french man.
Sure, it was a bit off at points as we misunderstood each other, and he tried to convince me to speak more in french to practice but i was embarassed and he gave in (thank god, i was murdering the language). But even talked about native americans and nazis.. so.. good convo i think. I feel better. |

Last week I had a guy, who boarded at the very end, demand that I ask someone else to take their bags off the plane and check them, so that he could use the now empty space for his, because he refused to check his bag. That wasn't going to happen. I also had someone write in to CO accusing me of racial discrimination because I had to check his bag in since we were out of space. |
