I probably didn't do the room justice...suffice it to say that it was large and comfortable and I would definitely return. Good luck with the upgrade!

I think all the bathrooms have a tub and the rain shower with the frosted glass. I did not use the tub since the plasma in the bathroom was not working yet .
And the lights , ha ha I remeber how crazy they were to operate.
everytime you hit the buttons some crazy combination of lights would go on , and it was either too dark , or too bright. Then you could not make the room dark to go to sleep. I got tired of messing around with it so I slept with the lights on instead of calling the butler to come and shut them off.
I did call the butler for coffee and toast in the am.
Thanks for the info , i will take some pics when I go.

So I'm sitting here having coffee with a side of steak and eggs while catching up on the Box, and I'm marveling at how busy this place is...and yet it's supposedly full of people who work. ;)

Micro-Do update: the comp request from the guy who has the website is in at the course, waiting on an answer.

LOL... well, it is travel related. ^

Four pages added to The Box overnight... Goodness! I need to start having it delivered to my front door in the morning. :D

While US Airways closing would probably be excellent for the industry, I think it's more likely that both US and UA will end up being liquified takeover targets. Even with the credit markets how they are and fuel being as bad as it is, there's got to be someone out there who can come in LBO-style, buy it cheap when the airline hits absolute rock bottom...maybe after lunch on the day that the new BK's are filed, and sell off the pieces that are worth something. Pay the creditors and start over. It's oversimplified, but it could work. Someone in the US forum suggested that US could go back to being great again if it remade itself into a large regional carrier. At this point, I think the name has been run into the ground and it would have to be rebranded, but the idea seems compelling.

I was 'splainin' to my German boss yesterday that since we get so few holidays in the U.S. that there's a gentleman's agreement amongst every professional that no one does work the week before, and after, a holiday. It averages out to equal about half of the vacation time that most Europeans enjoy.

... he nervously laughed.

I will, however, qualify that by saying I've been relatively productive the past couple of weeks. I like it when half the office is out. Free food is staying in the "breakroom" for record amounts of time. Easily, a solid 6 seconds instead of the usual ambush the person in the hallway before they reach the breakroom.

My 2 cents on a couple things -

I was a big SPG devotee over the past years. I think their properties are generally top-notch, with the exception of the rogue 4 points brand. My problem with them is, outside city centers, they can be few and far between. I always hit Gold, without thinking twice about it, but Gold at SPG is about as useful as a teleprompter in front of McCain. And I've had spotty service issues with 'em (as a former employee I kinda know what to look out for).

I think, of all the major hotel brands I've been leaning more and more towards Hyatts. The conversion of AmeriSuites to Hyatt Places have been ¡moy bueno! as they're pretty much everywhere I am and they're pretty nice for a sub-brand. And when I'm lucky enough to be in a city that has a full-blown Hyatt that isn't outrageously expensive, I think the service is always over the top. Again, I'm a former employee, so I know the secret handshakes, etc. My big problem with Hyatt is, outside the U.S. there's not a lot of places, where I want to go, that I can redeem my points. Poop.

I'm kinda torn what to do with my hotel loyalty going forward. I do kind of miss super-duper redemption properties at SPG. Although I was rather scorned by their devaluation bonanza last year.

Where's the aloft warehouse in Fancychester?

I've stopped using drawers in hotel rooms after a bad incident involving a "large" woman's dirty sock at the Mandalay Bay.

I brought in a Capri-Sun today for the sole purpose of busting it out during the middle of a meeting and drinking it*, just to un-nerve everyone else in the meeting.

*after the obligatory 5 minutes of fumbling with that retarded little straw.

Work is so over-rated :)

Last night I got an email from the Westin that I have been "living" in every week since Jan '07. They invited me to a picnic/Beach Boys event with the hotel staff next week.

I think... I THINK I've been staying there wayyyy too long.

Yes, because they consider you part of the hotel staff ;)

I was quoted in the NY Times a couple years ago about this phenomenon. It was a year when Xmas and New Years were on Wednesdays, and the article was about how that wasted two weeks of productivity. My quote was something to the effect of "Everyone spends Monday and Tuesday talking about what they are going to do and then Thursday and Friday reliving the experience. And then they just repeat the whole things all over again the next week." Suffice it to say that it was entertaining when my bosses saw my name attributed to that on the front page of the metro section the next morning. At least my company name wasn't there. Good times.

Good luck with the Capri Sun.

All of my separate media dirve - every piece of video, audio (iPod contents) and my photo library is getting a Windows balloon to pop up calling it "corrupted and unreadable" - this doesn't sound good.

I'll still keep up my Hilton and Marriott status (I could stop staying at Hilton tomorrow and stay Diamond into 2010 at this point) but I've been rather impressed by several recent Starwood stays. And they certainly are more generous with the bonus points than Hilton is these days. My main complaint about Starwood is their small number of hotels, especially outside of larger cities. But that does seem to be slowly improving as they roll out new brands, and expand some of the current ones.

Marriott is my preferred chain, followed by Hilton. Over the past couple of years, I have been largely disappointed in Starwood. This year, however, I have stayed at some newer and/or nicer Starwood properties, and it seems as though Starwood finally may be starting to improve. They still have a long way to go with their US properties, though, IMO. The international Starwood properties I have visited have been nice, but not as nice, on the whole, as the Marriott properties. If you want suite upgrades, though, you pretty much are stuck with Hilton or Starwood, and Hilton does not have nearly the international reach as Starwood.

Yeah - not so good. The computer I had been running iTunes off of blew its power supply the other night. And, of course, I didn't archive anything. Not to mention tons of vacation photos.

In other news, would anyone honestly buy this?

I love Brazil. the caipirinhas you find in in the States will never taste as good, unless you go to a really nice Brazilian restaurant.

Did you have the pleasure of eating the TAM tapir sandwhich?

Power supplies are actually pretty easy, and inexpensive, to replace. Or you can just move the hard drive from that computer to a new computer (if you decide to get a new machine instead of replacing the power supply). There's no reason that a blown power supply should result in losing all of that data.

But this does remind me that I really need to archive my home PC again, since it's where all of my media files and photos are.
