If I lose that drive, I might as well just take a shotgun to this computer and start all over. I bought a 500GB internal drive solely for media purposes, and it's only 12% full. The nasty yellow triangles have stopped popping up since I updated my McAfee definitions, and I have chkdsk on the media drive scheduled to run after the next reboot. We'll see what happens after that.

I was looking up how to swap out the power source last night. ssulivan, you're right, it doesn't seem that complicated and I'll get the part ordered one of these days.

You tell me... I've been looking for a decent excuse to head down there. I know that MLK day '09 was nixed as a Box mini-DO, but something earlier might work. :D
I have been on vacation out of the country and got home last night. Had not been to FT in 12 days. WITHDRAWAL....ConciergeMike told me about the possible do in PTY. Any updates on this? I love PTY and there is so much to do there. The restaurants are great and the people are so nice. I'm going to have to check out the prices for tkts. I always use 35K for Y from EWR as the fares when I go (usually Thanksgiving or January) are arund $570. |

We use a My Book drive to back up our home computers - pics, music, videos. It uses EMC backup technology/RAID architecture. We auto-run archivals weekly, so it is pretty easy to restore. These are cheap now (check out BestBuy) and can be installed in a few minutes.

A vital tool everyone should have. Can be difficult to set up the ISO image to run on your machine, depending on your hardware (I had dual RAID's and had to add special drivers) but once set it is a great tool. |

I would definitely back up some of the more important items on that drive before your next reboot.

Looks like that drive is toast...but it is letting me move stuff to the main drive. I'll try and recover what I can and then go computer shopping. Ironically thru all this, the Net has been fine. I think the drive took a power surge during a storm the other night. This would make two drives I've lost from that, despite having a surge protector.
|
Sounds like you need a better surge protector.
