Well said, sir. However, any execution on the content of a beer discussion may well cause a Chia ding in one's wallet.

It wasn't horrible; just not especially comfortable. And it certainly beats sitting in Y.

Not sure. Probably going to try and take an AA A-300 since I've never flown that type in September on MIA-JFK.

This is evident at, among other places, BWI D Concourse on Saturday mornings in the summer, where countless Kettles queue up and are shocked when the TSA barks at them to remove their shoes.

And I don't get the people that have to get up and use the lav as soon as the seat belt sign is off.

I do. Not everyone's physiology is the same. Often, it is more than an hour from pushback to cruising altitude, plus half an hour to board the aircraft, plus however long before boarding that you used the restroom. Easily 2+ hours, plenty of time to develop a renewed need to use the restroom, especially if you're pounding water and club soda in an effort to stay hidrated.

Or are shocked that their full size liquids can no longer be in their carry ons as I withnessed numerous times last weekend at ATL.

Yeah, really. I need me a TripAdvisor cap.

This Get 'r Done / Larry the Cable Guy has yielded nothing more than the occasional upgrade to an F-150 at the rental car counter.

By the way - fun game. When asked more than once if you want insurance on your rental car say - sure, what the heck. I just watched Days of Thunder on the flight in and I've got a neeeeed for speeeeeeeeeed. They usually results in a nervous conversation with a supervisor. ;)

Fun Westin Times Square story - I was living in ROC at the time and had just started dating my blonder half. I thought it would be a nice little trip to go down to NYC for the weekend. Through some strategic price-lining I got the Westin Times Sq (which was newly opened) for a killer rate of like $150.

Unfortunately, this was the weekend of the N.E. blackout (04) so NYC was in shambles. The Marriott Marquis had people sleeping in their parking garage because the electronic room keys wouldn't work.

Since we were on a US Dash-8 down to LGA, which I think predates things like radar, amazingly our flight was not cancelled. We showed up in the midst of the pandemonium and found our way to the Westin. In the dark, we were checked-in and climbed a gazillion stairs to our room.

We dropped our bags and made our way to a friend's place. At some point the lights came back on and we headed back to the Westin, made our way up to the room, and when we walked in and turned on the lights the room had blood spatters all over it. It was to the point that I was afraid to look under the bed as I was afraid I'd find the body.

So, I call down to the front desk and speak to a very polite person who promised to send someone up. They never showed up.

So I called back about 30 minutes later, the woman that picked up sounded genuinely mortified and promised someone would be "right up". We gave up another 30 minutes later and I went to the front desk where I asked to speak to the MOD. They refused to speak to me ?!? so I, once again, conveyed the story of the bloody room. I said we were going to go out and we'd be back in a couple hours and we'd check back at the front desk to find out what room they were going to move us to.

I did as I said we would and when we returned they, of course, had not moved us. And, due to trying to recover from the blackout - there were no rooms they could move us to in-house. And, yet again, the MOD refused to make an appearance.

I asked if they could walk us to another property and they told me no, cause I was on a PL booking.

yadda yadda yadda something like 3 hours later we finally got a new room.

Never again will I set foot in that hotel. I know I was there on a totally bizarre night, but the actions (or inactions) of the staff were inexcusable. I used to work for Hyatt and Starwood properties, I know how things work and I know what my rights are as a guest. I'm never unreasonable, or demanding, but I won't just accept "no" if that's not the right answer.

Sorry to hear, Steven. I'm sure there is a Box story there! :D

Thanks. The short version:

Movers call Sunday night and say "We'll be there tomorrow after 6:00 PM." I said "That probably won't work, but I'll have to call you back." I call back and leave multiple voicemails explaining I have to go out of town on a 5:30 PM flight and there will be nobody home until probably 9:00 PM to meet the movers. They never answer or return the voicemails, even though I'm calling the truck driver's cell phone. I board the flight out of ATL and take off. While I'm in the air movers arrive and find nobody home. Illegal immigrant non-English speaking truck driver calls and leaves multiple angry voicemails on my cell phone. Guy at moving company office calls my cell phone and leaves friendly, but concerned, voicemail. I land at MEM and turn on phone and get notified of multiple voicemails, which I listen to. I call moving company guy and explain situation. He gets mad at driver for not calling me back. Driver is still sitting with truck on my street. Finally get my partner on the phone who is heading home from a late meeting. He'll be home by 9:00 PM and is willing to let the movers unload. Movers refuse to unload and demand extra cash for waiting. Moving company guy at office says that the driver screwed up and I shouldn't have to pay. Thunderstorm hits, nothing gets unloaded.

This morning, movers are willing to unload at 7:00 AM but now say they need a smaller truck they can pull right up to our front door. Apparently last night unloading on the sidewalk on the street less than 100 feet away wasn't an issue; now it is. My partner goes to work because I told him he was not to wait around on these guys. His job is important and I agreed with him that it was a massive waste of his time to wait around on the movers. 8:00 AM the moving company guy calls me. Driver has to unload NOW. Of course nobody's home. Partner is at work; I'm in Baton Rouge. There's nobody we can have meet them. Other option is the movers put everything in storage, which I have to pay for, and then we'll be responsible for getting it out later. At this point I'm sick of dealing with the entire mess and want my stuff off that truck today no matter what. So I agree to the storage option. Still waiting to hear back at some point today how much additional $$$ I owe them and to make arrangements for the storage unit key to be overnighted to me. This weekend (hopefully) we'll get the stuff out of storage and bring it home in a U-Haul type truck ourselves.

I'm just praying it's all there and not too badly damaged at this point.

Fortunately there's nothing too extremely valuable in the truck. That stuff came with me in the car. It's mostly boxed items, which were very well packed, and some furniture. Most of the furniture we were going to sell anyway, so I'm not as worried about it.

In any case, complaints will be filed with the DOT, BBB, and any other appropriate parties. And if necessary, I will dispute the credit card charges for the move.

Just laned in DFW on an AA flight (lacking A/C). It looks like the EUA gods are watching over me as I just pulled the trigger on a NYC-PTY mileage run on 1/24 returning on 1/25. I then looked at the PDA site and saw that Ive got an equipment swap on my IAH-LGA flight for today to a 737-800 which means Ive got a shot at an upgrade.:D

Wow!

Was a it a "large" (reputable) company? Since I may be moving in the next year, I'd be interested who it was. Incidentally, was there an agreed upon "window" when someone would be at the house to let them unload? I would hate to have to deal with that during a travel week.

You must fly with me a lot ;)

I go before I board; after I board and still need to go after the seatbelt sign goes off. If I'm flying with MR BL his comment is always "Of course you do". And yes, I think it is psychological as well as the vast amount of liquids I consume!
