I'm not even sure how they would measure that.

Companions are marked as such when added to the upgrade list so they should be able to track what percentage actually clear the list. I would assume the number is quite low.

Yeah and I'm inclined to believe it. Just ask anyone who's tried to do a companion upgrade how succesful it was. For me, it really was a once in a blue moon thing.

I would imagine that they can track all the Companions that don't clear as they companions are tagged with a special code in the system. Surely they have the numbers from before and now.

Another day, another Acela trip. This one happens to be packed to the rafters.

So, Scott basically told you that the number is small because people just aren't bothering with having a companion added?

Off the top of my head, I think I'm actually 3/4 on companion upgrades so far this year. Unfortunately, tomorrow will likely be a miss unless they swap the equipment (currently a 73G) or if there are some no shows.

But what about the ones who aren't added to the list because "F is full sir".

I laughed the other day when I saw you used that in a normal(and I use that term loosely) thread. I was wondering what non-Boxers thought. :D

Did anyone catch the two-character airline code for AF regional partner CityJet?

I may have misinterpreted, but in the grander scale, the number of people who even use the benefit is small. That coupled with the number of people who would have cleared without the Rev-Up is also very small.

It's only in the last few months that there is plenty of F inventory on day of departure, otherwise it was nearly impossible. But in ten years as a Plat, the number of successful companion upgrades I can count on one hand and it's not for lack of trying.

But he did say it's an issue and they are working on it. We talked about some ideas and I think they are all reasonable solutions. So, the good news, it should be a short term issue.

But, he did say the Rev-Ups were not taking many companion upgrades away. We could also be battling people switching flights thanks to SDC and getting cleared.

I had no shot at clearing as a companion on the Party Flight but I was still added to the list. The easy way around "F is full, sir" is to do for your companion what gbryan84 did for me: respond to the gate agent with "That may be, but I just want to see where they would be on the list." That way the companion code gets attached and it logs as a failed companion. You're helping the data set for missed companions under the guise of wanting to play around on the PDA site.

To those lazy agents, I say . I always fight them on that one...

Interesting information. I'm glad to hear they recognize the issues with the companion upgrade system and that they are working on a solution. Can you share any details about the solutions you discussed with him?

I can imagine that rev-ups are not taking away many companion upgrades. My complaint was that Silver elites were taking away my companion upgrade. :D

I think that what they are able to track is the number of flights where they sell upgrades and then the flight goes out with folks still on the waitlist, be they companions, SDC, delays, walk-up fares or anything else. That is the ultimate conundrum that they want to avoid.

The solution is simple: Only process the upgrades at the gate at the time of departure. DL does this just fine. CO doesn't want the GAs to be processing transactions (for the SDC either) so I understand that but have the people swipe and tell them that they will only be charged if they clear. Heck, tell them to monitor their priority on the PDA site, too. But just selling the upgrades outright at the check-in window is foolish and our predictions of it not working well are coming to fruition.

WX, right?

I'd have to go check my records (which aren't very good) but I have to say that my companion numbers are surprisingly good, including some tough ones, like making a friend a plat companion to trump the rest of the golds he would have been competing with on a SEA-IAH segment. I also don't really travel with a companion all that often on EUA-able flights as most vacations my wife and I take are foreign.

Glad to hear that they are going to re-jigger it.
