Also, do not forget to sign up for the sites that monitor flights out of your preferred airports and will send you an email when prices drop. That got me in early on the EWR-FCO mistake fare on AF last year.

Ahhh. AF. I can't tell you the number of times I heard "I'm sorry, you are on a very special fare so we can not help you" during that trip.

I'm not looking for anything specific yet...but doing runs on cheap fares is made much easier by having a prodigious amount of VDB certs and the occasional trip in vain claim.

I have to bring my dog to the vet for surgery today :(. She has a hematoma in her ear that has been getting larger since I first brought her to the vet 2 weeks ago. So the vet said surgery is the only option left now. I called work and asked if anyone can switch with me, but no one is willing to work my midnight shift. We will see how many switches I do now when these people want me to work their evening shifts and work a evening/night double so they can attend their child’s football, baseball, soccer games and after school plays.
Why is it every time you get a little ahead with money and save it, somthing comes up that makes it all go away. Sucks that people won't switch. Best to your pup for getting better soon after the surgery! |
I just added my weekend flights to my OF and to the Box FM. Apparently my flights were the first MD88 flights for the Box this year. Even stranger to me is that both the LGA-TPA and MCO-JFK routes are actually new lines for me. I never would have guessed that - especially MCO-JFK - but both were new. Added bonus for the weekend fun. :D

If you have those, I might be aiming for Gold instead of Silver if I were you. I'm intending to spend $1,000 per tier (Silver to Gold to Platinum) this year.

I canceled my car rental res in SEA that I had with Dollar...switched to Thrifty so I could get Mileathon points. Rental has posted to my Amex, but days have not posted to Thrifty account....and it's the last 3 days I need to top off a free day. Did I miss something? By booking thru CO do I lose the Thrifty days? My Thrifty profile is set to build free days.

I could spend $2,000 per tier given some of the sale fares that I have seen and been unable to book for various reasons, but I'm not at a level of skill yet so as to spend $1,000 per.

Keep an eye out for the last minute specials to Europe from NYC & PHL.
Count on a HNL fare war - it usually happens a couple times a year, with flights in the $300 range. Take advantage of the transcon deals when they pop up. CO 1E perfected the art of spending weekends in SEA for $200 return. Continually monitor this site for your preferred airport: http://www.farecompare.com/search/flyertalk.html |

While not spectacular, that $438 to HNL is pretty good.
The $348 AZ fares in April are great, but 50% EQM. The best at the moment, it seems, is still NYC - SEA at $257 for same day turns. I can get some good fares out of PHL, especially to the west coast, via IAH, which net me some good EQMs on CO. I am about 30 mins from EWR and 60 mins from PHL, so if the fare is good, it's worth the extra 30 min drive to PHL. |

My spend is definitely above 3cpm so far this year, but part of that is trips that I actually wanted to take as a trip, not just a MR. The BRU Do ticket, for example, was ~$550 IIRC. Not a great CPM but a great trip.

That's awesome. Though, can you have Plat secured by Jan 15th? :) Out of curiosity, are you new to the elite game? If so, what has driven you to join the insane? :) The weather seems to have finally cleared up in AUS, which is great. The dreary rainy weather didn't make me happy. Wish I could have PLAT secured by Jan 15th. If I hadn't been incommunicado (i.e. no internet access because I was knee deep in client assessment on site with no access for 5 days ) when dyung posted the SEA-NRT fare I would have jumped on it! No, not new to the elite game. Been CO elite for about 10 years, either Gold or Platinum. Lots of biz travel in the past, but this year biz travel is going to be down hugely. So, in my hysteria at the thought of not being either gold or plat, decided I'd do some MRs. I only discovered FT in January, - man, how I wish I'd discovered it years ago!! Glad to see that there are people out there who don't think MRs are an insane waste of time! By the way, AUS is my fave city in the US. I so desperately want to move there from NJ, but dear Mr. Brit has his feet firmly rooted in Manhattan and it would take wild horses, camels, whatever, to drag him away. |

I'm supposed to be working ;), but I'm playing on FT, and looking for a cheap MR to tip me into gold for 2010. |
