wow, I love this page. I just found some(near) MRs out of my preferred airports!

Does anyone have any experience playing the bump game on a fare that was found on FareCompare, or do the planes not fill up because the cheap fare is out there?

Hows that farecompare link work? Whenever I remember using it, it never priced out to what it advertised. I'd like a sub-$500 fare AI to most anywhere in November. :o:D

I've had bump opportunities on a $370 all in L fare SAN - IAH - LGW a couple of years ago on the TATL segment. Had an opportunity coming back too, but they never picked us. I figured it was because we paid so little for the seats in the first place that they did not want to pay even more to put us up in the LGW Hilton overnight and give us food vouchers. My cheapskate buddy was damn near heartbroken when we didn't get the bumps.

The bump game seems to work better with Y fares as the cheap fares are long gone by the time a bump can be predicted. But cheap fare does not necessarily mean that the flights are going to be empty.

How far out are you looking? I've been bumped on some crazy low sale fares but that seemingly ends up as the combined result of profound IRROPs somewhere in the system and/or flight cancellations and/or last-minute positive confirmation of crew or employees.

It shows published fares, not availability. Getting from one to the other can be a significant PITA.

cheapest I've seen is $303 base from EWR. I'm thinking of trying to do a DUB run, but can't seem to find a date that works for me, given my client commitments in April.

I don't want to do weekends because I spend so much time away from my family during the week when I'm travellig to clients. So, I try to do MRs during the week if I can.

While not spectacular, that $438 to HNL is pretty good.

The $348 AZ fares in April are great, but 50% EQM.

The best at the moment, it seems, is still NYC - SEA at $257 for same day turns.

Very true, but for me it has lead me in the right direction on routes that I would never have researched.

My best travel tool is - and always will be - the ITA w/in 300 miles search. That is what found me my $110 one way to SNA on my upcoming trip and the $180 trip from ERI-LAX when CLE-LAX was $600.

And yes, that is how I found the YYZ-ZRH mistake fare.

I'm not looking for anything specific yet...but doing runs on cheap fares is made much easier by having a prodigious amount of VDB certs and the occasional trip in vain claim.

Also, do not forget to sign up for the sites that monitor flights out of your preferred airports and will send you an email when prices drop. That got me in early on the EWR-FCO mistake fare on AF last year.

ConciergeMike Mar 16, 2009 11:15 am

Great. Gotta go pick someone up and the PDA site took a dump.

Count on a HNL fare war - it usually happens a couple times a year, with flights in the $300 range.

I'm still waiting for another one of these to pop up. Last year's $283 EWR-HNL fare on UA was a steal especially since I burned a pair of CR-1s and sat up front the whole time. :)

That's awesome. Though, can you have Plat secured by Jan 15th? :)

Out of curiosity, are you new to the elite game? If so, what has driven you to join the insane? :)

The weather seems to have finally cleared up in AUS, which is great. The dreary rainy weather didn't make me happy.
