Can I still claim either if I get back to BWI several hours late? Does CO even give original routing credit if trip in vain is declared?

When I posted about that possibility a while back, folks on here said that if the VDB causes a trip in vain then yes, you should get the miles.

Sounds like that F/A-18 crash in California could have easily been avoided and lives not lost. :td:

The trip in vain would be on my second ticket - would that make a difference?

Since I'd miss the red eye back to EWR, I'd have to overnight in SEA and head back to BWI (preferably via IAH) in the morning. I also have a 3rd ticket (BWI-EWR) to get me back home on which I'd have to declare trip in vain. Unless I get a very creative (and desperate) agent, I doubt they'd want to go through the trouble of rescheduling or declaring trip in vain on 6 more flights.

Yep; that happened about two miles from my office. We could see the smoke shortly after it happened. I believe the aircraft should have been grounded in the first place, but outside that, he should've landed at the first available alternate airport, of which North Island was a prime spot. Sure it's a Navy installation instead of Marine, but it would've avoided the deaths of those four people. Hopefully the Marines will evaluate their MX program again.

Hmm - flight 3/8 this weekend appears to have the potential of being oversold (it was zeroed out almost a week in advance). Unfortunately, taking a VDB would prevent me from doing the turn in BWI and completing the 2nd half of my run. :(

I suppose if the cert is worth enough, I could throw away the 2nd half of the run and just head home...

If the trip in vain avenue doesn't work, you could have them cancel your second ticket and just refund it and keep your fingers crossed for another $120 BWI-SEA fare. :)

Signs you spend too much time in hotels, #375:

I just texted my SBH and told her we should move the coffee maker into the bathroom.

holiday inn?
That is the only chain I have seen that does this regularly.
Most SPG it is away from the bathroom near the TV, same for Hyatt.

I'm staying at a Hyatt in Wichita this week and am truly amazed. It's not a terrible hotel, but they've missed the mark on some small things.

1) There's a shoe print in the bath tub and apparently it is not coming out. Apparently this isn't an issue to anyone.

2) The tp dispenser is one i've seen in public bathrooms so that the patrons don't steal the tp. I kid you not.

3) There is a distinct lack of lighting, particularly in the bathroom. It's like you're taking a shower during a blackout.

Lesson of the week: Don't stay at the Hyatt in Wichita.

I agree - the only Hyatt hotel that ever fell far below my expectations was a Summerfield Suites in IAH (during CO Do IV)

Yeah, I was really quite speechless.

I'm going to have to take some pictures.

Hampton Inn. Last night's Westin did as well.

I actually kinda like it*. It's so... efficient.

*as long as the cups are in plastic-wrap.

Sounds like the computers we had at my high school. A few IBM PCs (which they upgraded to PC-XTs by replacing one of the floppies with a small hard drive my junior year) and some Apple IIes. We had one 386 model in the computer classroom, at the teacher's desk, and thought it was so fast. One of the teachers also had his personal Macintosh at his desk. But mostly we just used typewriters.

There are some nice summerfield's the one is AUS isn't too bad but it was undergoing a rename from another company at the time I went.

I like the larger suite hotels personally, much better than the mid ranged properties.

But I haven't been to the one in IAH, I was at the sheraton.

It's in the bathroom in probably 60-70% of the hotels I stay in. Seems like that's where it is at most Hamptons, Courtyards, Fairfields, and even a lot of full service Hiltons and Marriotts. As for Starwood, the last five I've stayed at it was in the bathroom; it seems that's where it's being located for aLofts, but I've also been in a couple of Westins and Sheratons lately where it was in the bathroom.
