EVA and China were willing to wait until T-5 but Singapore refused to give us any time past their T-15 even though we were talking about 7 F Class customers. Each one of these airlines claimed they had to leave on time otherwise they would miss their landing slot.

Does anyone know if Peru charges an entry fee to U.S. Citizens?

Of course they'll always let you rebook to MAF… for $150 each.

What's the situation?

There is just more and more gang violence spilling over to the ELP side of the border. Since we're spending two days there, I would rather be sure that I could get in and out if something were to happen.

Isn't most of the violence in Juarez? I probably wouldn't spend a ton of time in El Paso, but I'd feel safe flying in/out of the airport.

I'm not terribly concerned because the violence has been mostly on the Mexican side of the border. I just want to make sure the entire trip isn't a loss because something happens on the U.S. side. The violence seems to be spilling over at an alarming rate.

I just remember asking about BRU and the protesting and everyone telling me it's fine. Then we get there and they are basically protesting across the street from the hotel :p

Not that I am aware of, but there is a departure tax.

They make you eat a plate of ceviche and wash it down with Inca Cola.

I have heard mixed reviews about it. What did you eat?

I would have to look at the menus from my last flights to remember exactly, but one meal had a beef tenderloin appetizer and halibut entree, with salad course, french bread and rolls, Bordeaux, and little cake for dessert, plus a light breakfast prior to arrival; while the other had some sort of seafood appetizer and a stuffed chicken entree, with preplated cheese course and gateau-style dessert, and some sort of chicken sandwhich as the pre-arrival meal.

Hmmm, now you have me second guessing if I should be driving through there on my way to Austin next week or go further north.... thoughts from the box?

I don't know that it would worry me too much; if something happened that the city really was shut down, then I think CO would be willing to change your tickets without fees. But I doubt they'd let you do it if operations are normal, which they currently are.

It wouldn't concern me at all.

I'd be fine with driving through.

I am just being cautious with staying there.

When do you plan on arriving in ELP? We are flying in on 3/13 and driving east on 3/14. Let me know and maybe we can meet up for lunch or something.

I'm wondering which of those I'd find more distasteful.

Cool, if all goes well, i'll be driving through on 3/12 or 3/13. I've got a friend doing the first part of the drive with me and we're leaving SAN on 3/12. I'm not sure how far I can make it in the first day, but I'd love to be in Austin by later afternoon/early eve on 3/13 for SxSW.

Have you done that drive before? It's a beeotch. I did it back in January to Houston and back for my wedding. You can theoretically do SAN - ELP in one day, but there is no way you'll want to do ELP -AUS the next day. Coming back is even worse. Do SAN - TUS, TUS - ELP, ELP - AUS. It will make you want to kill yourself slightly less.
