A beast indeed. Though only tangentially related to SABRE, I got a bit of nostalgia reading this post, remembering days of my youth spent on AOL Dial-Up (back when they charged by the minute), playing endlessly with eAAsySabre. I remember drooling and dreaming at the thought of Transcons on 747s on the likes of TW.

I'm the son of two travel agents (amazing one could afford a Jag.), so I know a little bit about Sabre. Enough to know it is, in fact, a beast. I also know FIDELIO from my days working for Starwood. Clodgy.com
If you think FIDELIO stunk, get this: Atlantic City is still using LMS. Hotel and gaming stuff is done in AS400, with no visible nod to the change to "iServer". |

Yep, it is. I was even guilty of driving down to DFW when I was bored on the weekend in college and just hanging out at the airport, or just driving around the place. At the time it was not just full of MD-80s, but 727s, F-100s, L-1011s (DL), DC-9s (on CO/NW/DL), and old 737s.

I hope not at DFW. It sucks for spotting these days. Serves them right for being in Dallas. :p

I was at Shea stadium last night. I heard a rumor that a baseball game was played.
I wouldn't know, I was too content drinking my $19 Bud Lights  and watching the underside of the mAAd Dogs screaming overhead (which was a bit unsettling knowing how things like to fAAll off AAmerican jets). |

Once 161 was finished by 183 I'd pull over and put my hazard lights on and just watch the planes for a while. |

For all of you plane spotters out there - I came across the following site today:
http://www.planespotting.com/airports/na.html It gives some good user submitted information on the best places to watch planes at airports across the world. Many of the locations are spot on. Although, they failed to mention that you'll be harassed by all sorts of Hawaiian law officers if you spot too close to the parking lot at the end of Lagoon Drive (next to HNL). Looks like I am going to head out to LAX this weekend (seatcounter.com even shows a very good chance at upgrades both ways - shocking!). I'm looking forward to eating an In-N-Out burger while watching planes at LAX. :D |
