I poked around for dates in January and it was expensive, but not all that much more than flying to other smaller islands in the Caribbean in the winter.

For the whole island hopper route?

Oui. C'est vrai.

No point in redeeming for anything other than whY, then.

Very true. One has to think this is a 35000 mile Series 1 or Series 5 reward? No?

My guess is, that if this is redeemable with CO miles, then it will be in the same range as U.S. ----> Northern S. America. A Series 5 is 35,000 miles, whereas a Series 5b (Delta Award) is 45,000mi. The interactive reward chart specifically lists French Guiana as one of the Northern S. America countries, so perhaps they took this routing into account already.

Also, I think French Guiana may require vaccinations (Yellow Fever, etc.) before you're allowed in.

Anglo Large Clawed Otter Dec 3, 2008 4:06 pm

Apparently not. Website I just checked said no Visa required by U.S. Citizens staying less than 90 Days.

OK, so we stop at FDF!

Then again, I got a crapload of shots before we trekked to MLE so I might be covered. I need to check.

It is not cheap, but beyond SJU and maybe the Dominican there are a lot of cheap flights unless its hurricane season.

Perfect use of miles anyhow.

So after all of the poop and pee stories in The Box, there is now going to be a "Oui, Oui" Do? :p

Yes, assuming availability. I would be that the island hopper has a very high paid load factor.

My recollection (which could be wrong) was that French Guyana was treated as purely French territory and, therefore, equivalent to entering France itself.

That is correct, though there may be different suggested vaccinations given the tropical climate.

I would like to go to French Guyana really badly.

Also, since when is it spelled "Guiana" instead of "Guyana"?

At present, there is a lot of shooting oneself in the foot going on in another thread in this forum which shall not be named.
