Well, I just purchased a ticket that will put me through the ultimate upgrade tease - the 772 from EWR-IAH. I know people say it's an easy upgrade (especially on a Saturday morning, when I'll be on it) but knowing my luck, I'll end up in the back...

CO Platinum on a Saturday morning? I wouldn't worry about not getting the upgrade on the 777. But, should CO downgrade the equipment, which has happened to me on that route before (762 -> 752, 764 -> 762) then you might be hosed. But as long as the 777 holds, you should be good. FWIW, on that route on Saturday morning, on a 777, I've never seen it full up front.

I am still in X2. One for the miles and one for a vacation. For the first one I might have to review the BF upgrade flirt thread as I will not being using miles on that one to upgrade. I justified that ticket still by saying it would pay for one of the upgrades.

In other news, the friend that I put in the upgrade for said that I could use her OP Miles as she never uses them! :)

Good choice. NRT will still be there for when you can go and actually spend more time there. And you'll have a great new camera to take pictures with while you're there.

You know they are. The fees associated with the credit card refunds are nothing compared to the costs associated of flying someone on that route at that price, especially if the passenger was able to upgrade to BF on the cheap.

Huh — I just came across a flight I canceled on CO back in September that I could have sworn was refundable. Turns out it wasn't. So now I've got about $650 in credit from that trip that needs to get used.

I have shamed the FT community. :( Although, I'm making it up today by planning a few trips for March and April.

It's possible to see a lot in 24 hours. Most of my trips are weekend-length, with precious vacation time used for one or two big trips each year. Though I didn't get to join everyone at the DO, I felt that my 24 hours in Panamá were worth every penny and earned mile.

Oh, you never know. Trust me, I've been burned on between those two cities more than once with a similar swap.

But I'll be holding out for you that it works out.

I've got to do IAH-NYC on a Thursday morning in early April, and right now the 777 is still showing on one of those flights. So guess which one I'll be booking, and praying that the aircraft type holds and I get upgraded?
