Canada doesn't count as abroad - abroad to me means that there is an ocean crossing involved. Do people who study abroad go to Canada??

The news should concern itself with brains and not looks...give us dirty laundry indeed.

Cecily Tynan has alwayw been good to look at. :) Ah the days of real reporters. Long gone are they.

Actually most real foreign countries are easier to get into than Canada. Yes we are here to steal all of your resources and take your jobs from you in the name of the US of A. Hmmm, time to re-watch the South Park movie.

Acti:rolleyes:n Moron News in Philly just said that Obama went abroad for the first time as President...to Canada. And people wonder why I hate the news.

Oh, yes, Philly's Action News. The newscast that well into the current decade still produced the evening news much as it did in 1979, including eschewing modern computerized weather maps for old-fashioned magnetic boards. Do they still have that funky opening theme music with the bongo drums?

No one goes to Canada willingly (except for one program in Quebec) but Mexico is tremendously popular at many universities.

Yes on the theme. As for the older set, they choose not to mess with it for years but they have a modern studio now. If anyone wonders about the cloud on the weather map it's a memorial to Jim O'Brien (his daughter played Rozz on Frazier) who was their weather guy a long time ago who died in a sky diving accident.

My itinerary that I want is in E - not great but I also admit that I'm doing it for FM lines - I want CLE-FLL and EWR-PHL. I've never seen my city pairs go down in price...FLL for Christmas week tends to go nowhere but up.

Oh, yeah, for FLL it probably won't go down much, especially that time of year. I never really understood the enormous appeal of going to Florida that everyone in the northeast seems to have, but then, growing up in Texas, I didn't deal with the harsh winters either. I'm kind of weird. I actually like to head north during the winter to see snow and have some true winter weather.

Yes - their production value was  until very recently. And yes, the pitiful theme music is still there...there is a near riot every time changing it is brought up. You can even get that craptastic music as a ringtone. I think you can find that ringtone at stupidestf-ingringtoneinhumanhistory.com.

Cecily Tynan is average. The general assignment girls at NBC10 are cuter, and no matter one's politics, there is no denying the hotness of Fox News.

Yeah I noticed they had greatly modernized the set when I was in the Philly area for work a few years ago. I was shocked, since the last time I had been there, in 2001, it was so terribly outdated, and looked like it did when I first saw their newscast in the late 1980s (and it was archaic even then).

Agreed. Christmas in Tahoe or Big Bear is a lot of fun. But my wife spent a year in ANC and has unilaterally vetoed moving to anyplace that has excessive amounts of snow. I've further been informed that I will be doing any and all shoveling if I don't want to get a snow blower because she has already paid her dues. So I don't imagine a winter wonderland is in my future.

There's a way to make this point moot.

Houston's ABC affiliate, Channel 13, had the same theme music many, many, many years ago, when I was a kid. It disappeared in the early 1980s, and they've updated the replacement theme several times over the years. But I guess some things never change, and their sister station in Philly will probably keep that old music for a few more decades.

Many "Action News" broadcast use that theme.
At least from watching Action News you know that David Boreanaz is going to have a long acting career if he ages like his father. Heard an interview once with the two Daves and couldn't tell them apart.

If anyone cares ABC nightline is doing real journalizm with a story on man b:rolleyes::rolleyes:bs

Ok geeky TV trival What does WPVI mean? Also What does WPXI mean?

Did you book your initial flights based on available upgrade inventory or did you just happen to luck into a flight that had upgrade seats released already?

W = Standard station first letter for this part of the US
P = Philadelphia
VI = Roman numeral for 6

WPXI is Pittsburgh channel 11 (XI)

No idea but give me the D.C. ones and I'll do fine - WJLA was named by Joe Allbritton for Joe Allbritton; owner of Riggs Bank before the scandal (and subsequent purchase by PNC). Can't tell you one thing about BNA media history except that it all currently sucks (more so when the Gannett papers misquote me).
