Private schools aren't bad by any means, just like public schools aren't great by default, but some active participation by parents wouldn't have hurt.

I was lucky. I got to re-cycle all my high school papers at college. In fact most of my college work was a repeat of high school, until I hit my major.

Might I remind you that you spent your Christmas vacation sitting in the shadow of my high school. All you had to do was walk up the hill towards Diamond Head and you would have been in heaven. Those girls would have loved you. :D

Ten years ago, perhaps. Today, it would just be really creepy, and get me into unspeakable trouble with the Significant Otter. :D

I love to cook. Cleaning, not so much. You know what's tougher on grease and softer on hands than Dawn? A Labrador Retriever. Forget pre-soaking. Let Old Yeller take care of that baked-on grease.

I agree that failure often teaches the most important lesson in life. Unfortunately, combining the 2 things you said above allows students to make it though high school without failing. Once they reach the real world and mom and dad stop bailing them out, they are often clueless and their failures becomes the responsibility of society.

That's kind of my point. There is also a lot of school politics that keep teachers from failing kids...

Yes. And I swear my next husband will be a cook. Or atleast make more than enough money so that I can hire a cook.

Exactly. If a kid cannot read or do basic math, they should not be moved up.

I got a Tagine for Christmas this year, and have been rocking out with Moroccan Lamb dishes lately.

What's a Tagine? I love lamb.

Social promotion sucks. It's far more useful to have a kid be embarrassed over his lack of education than it is to move the kid along like you're dealing with an assembly line that doesn't bolt pieces together correctly.

It's a cooking dish from northern Africa.

Yes, I am a nerd.

A piece of ceramic cookware that looks like a pointy-hat.

It's traditionally used in Morocco to slow-cook their dishes (highly spiced chicken or lamb, usually, with fun stuff like dates or figs thrown in).

Yes, I am a nerd.

If you're a nerd, I'm stupid. :D
I might need one of these if the dishes are easy to prepare and taste good.
Time to google.

Moroccian food is yummy. A lot of fruits get used too so many are nicely sweet.
