We have that here in New Jersey as well. It depends on the descipine on what you need to do it. For someone like me I can easily get in the alternate route to teach science and technology education. I'd be scared to death though since you actually start teaching before you ever take a class. Tech Ed. the easiest for me to get in isn't a real option for me since none of the schools in my area don't do it. It's not shop. It's stuff I was doing in college. Sounds all cool and stuff but even thoug the classes are very relavent to the future of our country and all, the current NJ education rules don't test for it and therefore the administrations consider it worthless since the only thing that counts is test scores and not if a child learns anything meaningfull (I'm still waiting to use just one word from the SAT in everyday use)

I think your pound puppy shared that trick with my dog.:)

I'm sure it's not as simple as I'm making it sound, but so far it sounds like I just need to pass an exam with a score that is 10% above passing and then find a school district that will take me.

You could also bone up for science in general and take the Praxis II for Science content knowledge.

I dunno... When I was buying my place, the seller didn't even bother responding to my initial offer. At all. There was no "HA-HA-HA-HA-HA!", nor even a

As a licensed PE I don't have to take the Praxis II with the alternative route. I simply don't want to deal with the occational problem parent. I'd like to teach/instruct/lecture in the post high school world. I did get a sort of good lead on Tuesday night that may lead to that at least once a week provided they didn't farm out the entire grant to a consultant I really like.

We had some friends from NY down here for the past few days who were looking for a place and just today they made an offer that turned the selling broker's face sour. That was only after we had dinner with them last evening and informed them that this broker was obligated to take every offer to the Seller, whether she thought that it was insulting (as she told them it was).

My guess is that in this market down here, any offer that somebody with cash is making can no longer be categorized as an insult and I am watching with interest to see what happens to their 70% of the asking price offer.

God I hate all those SAT prep courses that I was required to take in high school. How many times have you used those "this is to that: and that is to this" comparisons!

In order to become a teacher in Hawaii, you are required to pass a verbal test. They need to make sure you can speak standard English.

I'm with you, I think we need more relevent classes, such as wood shop and auto repair.

I think school needs to be a more punishing experience...kids are graduating too dumb and sooner or later it will cause the loss of American dominance.

I didn't have the required SAT prep course. The 275 of 280 people in my class that took it were expected to break 1200 (old grading system) 17 people that I know of got 1600.

I'm sure if we continued with the classses, the pound puppy from hell would have failed too! The word "stay" is not in her vocabulary, no matter how many treats we offer....she's just a wiggly thing that gets too excited when we open the front door. I won't even get into that whiney high pitched bark she uses. Thank god she's cute.

I was never the wood shop or auto repair kind of guy - that's what carpenters and mechanics are for. I think relevant high school courses should include economics, personal finance and money management.

Sadly, it may already be too late. :(

My wife is a high school special education teacher and she spends a great deal of time teaching transition skills to her students. She often says (and tells her students) that not everyone is meant to go to a four year university, but everyone should strive to get some post-secondary training to help with getting a decent job in life. Classes like shop and auto repair are a great stepping stone into that.
