Something has to be messed up... The PDA site has me at #1 on the upgrade list but I can't imagine there were 8 other Plats on higher fares on this half full 5:30a flight.

Interestingly enough, the On/Off option for my elite upgrade never displayed for the outgoing portion of this itinerary.

Ok, I'm done complaining... :D

Well, more bad luck, the IAH-HNL segment is booked and checked-in full. :( Here's hoping to 10L being comfortable.

I know - things are not working in my favor so far! :) But, maybe we'll have a chance at a VDB to CO72 - although Seatcounter shows Y2 H2 so that's even a big stretch.

Fortunately, I was able to move to 12B a few days ago so I'll at least have some extra leg room.

You should be fine with that seat. I find the bulkhead seats on at the front of the first Y cabin on the 767s to be quite comfortable, with pretty generous leg room. It's not BF, but it's far better than a standard Y seat.

Inside the Dreamlifter

There is a cool video on gizmodo (http://gizmodo.com/375179/inside-the...ng-dreamlifter) for anyone who is interested in the DreamLifter that was created to haul parts of the DreamLiner for assembly in Washington.

Definitely an odd-looking bird, but it is pretty cool on the inside.

My MSY flight is delayed by 2:30 (equivalent to flying time for IAH-MSY-IAH-MSY). At least I'm at the top of the standby list for a later flight (that should actually depart earlier). Nothing left to do but try and earn back my PC membership fee by drinkin' 'em dry :D

I was wondering why I couldn't get a cheap ferry flight for a CMH run.

I'll be surprised if another domestic goes under in April, but things are pretty ugly. NW and DL are high on the list for failing back into bankruptcy since their entire exit from bankruptcy was based on a business plan that had 30% of their costs at a rate 35% cheaper than they are. At this point the burn rate on their available cash has to be pretty high, and they didn't have all that much just sitting around to begin with. I'd be worried if I were them (or a creditor).

As for other carriers goign under, keep an eye on AZ, too. The merger with AF/KL is basically done pending the unions pulling a hara kiri and letting themselves be excised to save the host organism, but that isn't their style.

MSY is off the table...and flushed down the toilet therein my plan to propose. Replaced with MCO and DAB 9/11-9/15. I'm probably the world #1 NASCAR hater (Non-appealing Sport Centered Around Rednecks), but I find the lure of taking the tour of that speedway to be irresistible. That, combined with Universal Studios and some brief wedding research, should make for a fun 5 days and 4 nights.

How sad! My wife and GF will be very disappointed. They were planning on spending a day next week researching scenic, romantic places for you to propose. Now they have to spend more time during FQF selling beer, soda and water to the visiting hordes. C'est la vie.

ConciergeMike Apr 5, 2008 7:13 am

Their research may not be in vain, George...we still plan to visit, only not for the intended occasion. Girlfriend isn't a good flier...or, in her words, "I'm OK except for takeoff and landing", so when CO downgauged it all the way to RJ, she quite understandably hesitated. She's never done non-mainline: it doesn't bother me, but... Also, the DAB and MCO trip is free lodging...we did the timeshare pitch thing last week. All this means is that she needs to be wearing the ring by the time we fly, because the whole point of MCO was to go look at the venue that we like.

SuperG1955 Apr 5, 2008 11:43 am

OK Mike,

I'll put the ladies (Wife & GF) back on track for romance for the two of you when you visit. I'm certain they'll want to take you out to celebrate.

The goings on were getting substantial. We were going to change our schedules to be there so that they could personally supervise. The last I heard was that the ladies were going to have you propose, on bended knee, beneath the statue of Andrew Jackson (in aptly named Jackson Square), after which there would be a champagne toast and you'd be second lined by The Treme Brass Band to a suitable establishment, still to be decided, for a celebratory luncheon.

One never knows what the ladies will come up with.

George
