I'd love to fly a DC-10 again! I've only got one flight on the type -- IAH-LAX a few days before 9-11 in 2001. Less than a month later CO retired them.

Oh, really? Was I that drunk? Hm...

Anyways, I've flown AA's and NW's DC-10, and I think my parents flew AZ's DC-10 HKG-xxx-xxx-FCO on their honeymoon and they have also flown SR's.

What I really really would like to fly is the MD-11. I missed my best chance, as I stopped flying AA's DFW-NRT before they switched from the 747SP to the MD-11.

If you can figure out a way to get on it, there's always the World/Sonair charter flight from IAH to Africa that services the oil industry...

But it's scheduled to switch to a 747 from a MD-11 later this year.

I've not flown the MD-11 either. My biggest regret was not getting on the L-1011 before DL retired it.

Finnair still flies the MD-11, unless I'm mistaken. But I'm not as crazy as you and Scott to go out of my way to fly a specific plane type. :)

There are still some DC-3's flying. Mostly freight though.

Don't be surprised if you start seeing them, they're more economical than RJ's.

Doesn't KLM fly the MD-11?

Yes.

They schedule them. Whether they get off the ground is another question though.

ssulivan, if not flying on an L-1011 before it retired from DL is your biggest regret, then, uhm, ...how do I say this politely... you need to drink more. :o

Hey, CO Insider, if you're reading this, how about some DC-3s operating as Continental Connection for flights like IAH-LBB? I'd rather fly one of those than a Chautauqua CRJ!

Hmm... on second thought maybe I should make that request of NW, since they're more keen on the idea of flying passengers around in antique aircraft than CO is.

I would stick with CO. Yea, it is a bit more flight time, but you're a FT'er!!

Plus as it's an international market you can force a long connection. Oh, and if you do book it as a one way be sure to check out expedia's price compared to CO's...there just may be a LFG in it for you.

OK maybe not my biggest regret, but it is still a type I wish I had flown at least once. Ranks right up there with the 707, any model that starts with DC except the -9 and -10, and the Concorde.

And I'm trying to be good and drink less! Don't encourage me to drink more. ;)

You do not want to fly around on a DC-3, unless you like sitting on a honey bucket. I believe CO's DC-3 is currently parked in a TX museum.

Does TAM still fly the MD-11 ?

ssullivan Mar 27, 2008 11:37 am

I don't know... it can't be much worse than flying on a CRJ-100/200.

I LOVED the L-1011s. It's a pity Lockheed couldn't get their crap together. They were far nicer then the DC-10s.
