There is a delay on the radio, but it is still pretty cool .

IMO, the most interesting airports to listen to are EWR, JFK, SFO, and LAX because of all the international traffic. I have been listening during many go-arounds, aborted takeoffs, runway incursions, and even when the CO 777 experienced an engine flameout (or whatever it was) and aborted takeoff last year at EWR. I was also listening when Air Force One landed at EWR - it was quite a production for ATC to clear the field and halt all arrivals and departures.

I'll grant them that. If we have an Indians game DO, do we all dress up in red-face? :p

Perhaps a Mini-DO at the Great Lakes Brewery would be in order...

A 330? I remember reading in the filings they applied to fly it with a A340 and rumor had it that they were going to lease it from Airbus.

It will be too bad if they tank, as it will mean that they took down HP with them, a pretty decent carrier all things considered.

HP is an interesting beast. I flew them a lot back in the CO/HP code-share days and they weren't bad. But my last few flights with them haven't been quite so pleasant.

Interestingly enough, if US does die, it will be interesting to see what happens to PHL, PHX and CLT with all the money those cities have poured in building the airports. Maybe in PHX CO could finally move to a terminal that isn't a relic of the 60s.

They passed on several chances over the last 2 years to acquire a couple of 343s or 345s. Right now, there's really none on the market.

A 332 can probably make PHL-PEK, but with pretty significant payload restriction. It's not a very large plane to start with, and then you put restriction on it, you end up flying a lot of fuel for many miles while transporting very few passengers.

I guess it was an A340. Either way, I read something about them not finding a plane priced where they wanted it and that was one of the things slowing them down.

edit to add: Found it... Apparently they are looking for an A340 on the cheap and those aren't around because the 787 is so delayed.

Although US Airways has rights to convert some A330s to A340s, the carrier no longer has "the time to alter" the A330 order for A340s deliveries to support the March 2009 launch of Beijing, reveals Nocella.

Boredom + Flightmemory Premium = This

The joys of OCD: figuring out which parts of the map need new lines on them, deciding whether to book a 753 or 739 (to bump them in one's "Top Aircraft" rating, of course), wondering where the next aircraft type will come from (SU, actually).

2008 is off to a good start mileage-wise, but not enough airlines added to the mix yet...

Top Airlines (distance) details
# Airline Amount %
1 Delta Air Lines 33.711 mi 42.9 %
2 Continental Airlines 18.476 mi 23.5 %
3 United Airlines 13.510 mi 17.2 %
4 Air New Zealand 4.004 mi 5.1 %
5 LAN 3.406 mi 4.3 %
6 Alaska Airlines 3.319 mi 4.2 %
7 Northwest Airlines 1.859 mi 2.4 %
8 American Airlines 225 mi 0.3 %

Meh, I've doing the same thing; I've added plane types to my mileage spreadsheet.

I get to add a new airport and a few routes to my map in the next few weeks. Saturday I fly to SNA for the first time. Then I have DTW-MSP and MSP-SEA flights coming up before the end of the month, which will add a few more lines to my map. I should also get another type, provided NW doesn't substitute the DC-9-40 I'm scheduled on for a -30 or -50.

Of course, not nearly as exotic as ALCO's upcoming Soviet plane(s)...

sdm1130 Apr 9, 2008 9:29 pm

Assuming there is no NW schedule change, I get to add the ERJ-175 and the CRJ-900 to mine in about a month. Hopefully the associated seat numbers will be in rows 1-4.

I don't think a 332 will handle it. According to the great circle mapper, PHL-PEK with 180minute ETOPS is 6,878mi. According to the Airbus website, the range on the 332 is 6,750. Looks like they'll have to find a 340 of some kind.

Sorry to put the box in the way-back machine to a couple weeks ago and rehash the Amtrak discussion, but anyone have any idea how long it generally takes for the miles to post to CO?

In other news EUA's confirmed for flights the next couple of days. Yahtzee.

Now I get to play Terminal A or C roulette at EWR.

Mine have taken a couple weeks to post before. Save the stubs and wait a month; CO's OPSC is going to tell you to wait anyways.
